Radhika Aiyer today appealed to GTA chief secretary and the district
magistrate to reconsider their decision to divide Kalimpong Block as
doing so would put Teesta under the Takdah block. A recent meeting
between GTA sabhasads and the administration had finalised the issue of
transferring Teesta and its surrounding Gram Panchayats from Kalimpong
BDO to Takdah. But the decision was met with protests from both area
residents and political parties.
Residents of Teesta Bazaar and its
surrounding areas have been demanding for the merger of the area’s six
GPs into one and the formation of a Block Development Office in Teesta.
The protestors have also formed a committee called the New Block
Formation Committee to press on with their demands.
