GJAC announces two-day respite to shutdown on Sept 9, 10

A two-day relaxation to the ongoing shutdown was today announced by the Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee to facilitate students of residential schools to return to the hills. Commercial establishments will also remain open for the two days although all government offices will continue to observe the bandh.

Addressing the media after nearly two hours of deliberations, GJAC chairman Enos Das Pradhan said, “We took stock of the situation and after a long deliberation decided to provide a two-day relaxation on September 9 and 10 to enable outstation students to get back to their schools. Commercial establishments including banks and vehicular services will also remain open but only for the stipulated two days. However, government offices will not be allowed to open during the relaxation period.”

The GJAC had on Thursday said educational institutions would be kept outside the purview of the strike, but did not specify the date from when, saying an announcement would be made subsequently.

Although all schools have welcomed the decision, they are apprehensive about the two-day respite.

“It is good that educational institutions are being kept open from September 13 onwards. But it is doubtful whether parents will be able to make it to the hills on those two days given the issue of availability of flight and train tickets,” pointed out a school principal not wishing to be named.

The Darjeeling hills have been witnessing a shutdown for more than a month in demand of a separate state. The strike on occasions has been tweaked into the ‘ghar bhitra janta’ and ‘sadak ma janta’ agitations – described by the GJM as the people’s movement – in its bid to skirt a high court verdict declaring strikes illegal.

Meanwhile, the GJAC has hinted the strike may be lifted in the near future. The possibility of normalcy returning has gained ground after some members of a delegation comprising former and current MPs and MLAs who had gone to Delhi returned today after meeting some central leaders.

“We will definitely try to honour the request made by the Union home minister. The team members who arrived today have apprised us about some of the developments that took place in Delhi. A final meeting will take place on September 10 as the remaining members of the delegation will have returned by then,” said the joint action committee’s coordinator Raju Pradhan, who belongs to the GJM.

Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has reportedly requested the GJAC delegation to call off the agitation to facilitate a tripartite dialogue. “We are aware that our agitation is a long-drawn movement and has the support of the people. But we will provide periods of respite in between,” said the GJAC coordinator, adding the committee today also mulled over the prospects of expanding the statehood agitation to regions outside the Darjeeling hills.

Meanwhile, 58 more people were arrested last night in raids across the hills under specific and preventive measure provisions and warrantee cases taking the total persons detained since July 29 to 1,085.

Uproar in Parliament over Darjeeling issue

Trinamool Congress members today created an uproar in Parliament to protest Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's meeting with Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leaders without informing the West Bengal government, forcing brief adjournments of both Houses.

As soon as the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha convened for the day, TMC MPs raised the issue vociferously displaying placards that read "Don't Divide West Bengal" and "Centre don't do politics in Darjeeling".

TMC legislator Sudip Bandopadhyaya raised the issue in the Lok Sabha alleging a "deliberate, motivated" attempt was on to divide West Bengal”.

He said, “We apprehend the Central government is also trying to play a role,” adding it is unfortunate that Shinde was holding talks with GJM leaders when the West Bengal chief minister was meeting people in Kalimpong along with senior officials.

Bandopadhyaya sought to know how the home minister held the meeting when the prime minister has said no step will be taken without consulting the West Bengal government.

Charging the Centre for interfering continuously in the affairs of the state, the MP said this is hurting the federal structure.

Rubbishing the GJM’s demands for a separate state, he wondered as to how such a small area with just three Assembly seats could be carved out of West Bengal that has 294 Assembly seats.

"Jaswant Singh's Lok Sabha constituency (Darjeeling) has three Assembly seats from the hills and four from the plains," said Bandopadhyaya.

When the House met for the day, TMC members trooped into the Well holding placards and shouting slogans against Shinde. This led to a brief adjournment of the House.

TMC members created similar scenes in the Rajya Sabha and forced a brief adjournment of the House during Zero Hour.

Accusing the Centre of indulging in a "divide and rule" policy, TMC MP Derek O'Brien said Shinde had breached PM Manmohan Singh's promise to the state that any meeting with GJM leaders would take place in consultation with the state government.

He said the PM had written a letter to the West Bengal chief minister on August 1 saying, "I have instructed Central Government personnel that any meeting with the GJM leadership should be done in consultation with the state government and that they should keep you informed of developments".

O'Brien claimed the home minister met GJM leaders in New Delhi on September 3 without informing the state, which shows "nobody is listening to the prime minister”.

He accused the Centre of trying to make a mockery of the federal structure of the country.

Meanwhile, some more TMC members trooped into the Well holding placards that read "Don't Divide Darjeeling".

Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari asked them to go back to their seats but as they kept on demanding the home minister's statement on the issue, he adjourned the House for 10 minutes. When the House reassembled, similar scenes were witnessed again.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajeev Shukla intervened saying the home minister was not available for the day and he was not keeping well either.

At this, the TMC members demanded a statement from the Minister of State for Home to which Shukla agreed.

TMC’s Nanita Gautam condemns burning of party flags

Hills Trinamool Congress leader Nanita Gautam today vented her anger at pro-Gorkhaland supporters who allegedly burnt TMC party flags put up at several places during chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s visit to Kalimpong.

She said, “Burning our party flag is a shameful act. We do not expect such acts under the leadership of a group led by well-educated people. Even the agitation period led by Bimal Gurung did not witness such incidents.” 

The hill TMC women’s wing president said she suspects some antisocial elements are trying to spread violence by engaging in such activities. “Those spearheading the agitation should resolve the matter, but who knows, maybe the leaders themselves are inciting violence,” she pronounced.

Gautam also claimed the TMC hills unit does not oppose the formation of Gorkhaland even as she refrained from openly opposing the anti-Gorkhaland statements the chief minister made on her visit to Kalimpong.

She said, “Whatever the CM said was her personal views. This was not the first instance of her voicing opposition to the formation of Gorkhaland. Gorkhaland is the voice and demand of the people and the hills TMC does not oppose it. We joined this party only to save the hills from falling into the abyss of corruption.”

कालेबुङ 5 सेप्टम्बर(छेवाङ):दुइहप्ता अघि देखि पुलिस प्रशासनले आन्दोलनकारीलाई धड़पकड़ गर्ने क्रम स्थगित गरेको थियो भने आजदेखि पुन शुरु गरेको छ। मोर्चाको आन्दोलन क्रम अवधि 2009मा लागेको मुद्दाहरुमा आज कालेबुङ पुलिसले 42 नम्बर समष्टी, लोले-पाला जोनका पुर्व मोर्चा अध्यक्ष मिलन उर्फ टिकाराम पोखरेललाई पक्राउ गरेको छ। मोर्चा नेता पोखरेललाई आज बेलुकी तिनको पाला स्थित तिनको घरबाट पक्राउ गरेको पुलिस शुत्रमार्फत जानकारी पाइएको छ। आरोपी पोखरेल विरुध आन्दोलन अवधि साल 2009मा एकजना अनुसूचित जातिको व्यक्तिको घरमा आगजनी गरेको आरोपमा कालेबुङ कोर्टले वारण्ट जारी गरेको थियो। आज पक्रा परेका मोर्चा नेता टिकाराम पोखरेल विरुध पुलिसले आइपीसीको धारा 147/148/149/427/436 अनि अनुसूचित जातिको घरमा आगजनी गरेको आरोपमा धारा 3 अन्तगर्त मुद्दा दर्ता गरेको छ। शुत्रबाट थाहा लागे अनुसार आरोपी टिकारामलाई पुलिसले भोली कालेबुङ कोर्टमा प्रस्तुत गर्नेछ।

मुख्यमन्त्रीको विरोध कालेबुङमा अझ तेज

पश्चिम बंगालका मुख्यमन्त्री ममता व्यानर्जीको भाषणले रुष्ट बनेका पहाड़का जनता अनि नेतृत्वहरुमा आजसम्म पनि विरोधको राग दन्किरहेका छन्। गत 4 सेप्टम्बरदेखि मुख्यमन्त्री ब्यानर्जीको बिरोधमा कालेबुङमा उठिरहेको जन-आवज आजसम्म पनि यथावत नै रहेको छ। बन्द कालेबुङ शहरको सड़कहरुमा छुट्टै राज्यको समर्थनमा निस्केका जनसाधरणले आज पनि एका-एक राज्य प्रमुख ममता व्यानर्जीले पहाड़ प्रति गरेको कुटनीतिको विरोधमा नाराबाजी गरिरहेका थिए। छुट्टै राज्य गोर्खाल्याण्डको मांग विरुध मुख्यमन्त्रीले दिएको भाषणले राज्य चहाने समर्थकहरुमा थप उर्जा बढ़ेको छ। बंगाल प्रशासन विरुद्ध जुलूस निकालेर नाराबाजी अनि धरना प्रदर्शन गर्दै आफ्नौ असन्तुष्टी जाहेर गर्न आज पनि धेरै संख्यामा मोर्चा समर्थकहरु कालेबुङ शहरमा भेला भएका थिए। नारी मोर्चा कालेबुङ महकुमा समितिका प्रतिनिधिहरुको अगुवाइमा उक्त भिड़मा उपस्थित बनेका समर्थकहरुले यहाँको डम्बरचोकबाट छुट्टै राज्यको मांगमा विभिन्न प्रकारको नाराबाजी गर्दै जुलूस निकालेका थिए। जुलूसले शहर परिक्रमा गरि पुन डम्बरचोकमा आइपुगेर एउटा जनसभामा परिणत भएको थियो। जनसभालाई गोर्खाल्याण्ड संयुक्त कार्वाही समितिका एवम क्रान्तिकारी माक्सबादी कम्युनिष्ट पार्टीका केन्द्रीय समिति उपाध्यक्ष जेबी राई, गोर्खाल्याण्ड टाक्स फोर्सका संयोजक आर. मोक्तान अनि नारी मोर्चा नेतृ तारा लोहारले सम्बोधन गरेका थिए।

आजको जनसभालाई सम्बोधन गर्दै समितिका उपाध्यक्ष जेबी राईले लेप्चा प्रतिनिधिहरुको चलखेल अनि मुख्यमन्त्री ब्यानर्जीको भाषणको कड़ा प्रकारले आलोचना गरेका छन्। राज्य प्रमुखले हाल पहाड़मा उपनिवेशको नीति अपनाइ रहेको आरोप लगाउँदै उपाध्यक्ष राईले आफ्नो सम्बोधनमा मुख्यमन्त्रीले पहाड़मा जाति विभाजनको राजनीति गरिरहेको लेप्चा समुदायले बुझ्नु पर्ने अनुरोध गरे। ‘पहाड़मा आफ्नो बर्चस्व कायम राख्न मुख्यमन्त्रीले जाति विभाजनको नीति अपनाएकी छन्’ तिनले भने ‘बंगालको उद्देश्य नबुझि लेप्चा दाजु-भाइहरुले थपड़ी मार्नु हुँदैन’। तिनले आफ्नो सम्बोधनमा पहाड़का सबै समुदायहरु एक भएर बंगाल सरकारको विभाजन नीतिको विरोध गर्नु पर्ने अपिल गरेका छन्। पुलिस प्रशासनले राज्य प्रमुखको निर्दैशमा आन्दोलनकारीहरुलाई धड़पकड़ गरिरहेको आरोप लगाउँदै तिनले बंगालको कानुन व्यवस्था प्रति प्रश्न उठाएका छन्। ‘मुख्यमन्त्रीले राजी-खुशी गर्न पाउने बंगालको कानुन भारतको संविधानमा पर्छ कि पर्दैल’ तिनले प्रश्न गरे। मुख्यमन्त्रीले मेला ग्राउण्डबाट घोषणा गरेका योजनाहरुको विरोध जनाउँदै राईले आफ्नो सम्बोधनमा सरकारलाई पाँच वर्ष विताउन कठिन परिरहेको बताए। समिति अपाध्य राई आजको जनसभामा मुख्यमन्त्रीको भाषणको प्रतेक लाइनहरुको खण्डन गर्दै यदी सरकारलाई समस्या हुँदैन भने ‘पश्चिम बंगाल’को नाम नै परिवर्तन गरेर ‘गोर्खाल्याण्ड’ राख्नु सक्नु पर्ने चुनौती दिएका छन्।

यता नारी मोर्चा नेतृ तारा लोहारले पनि आफ्नो सम्बोधनमा सय वर्ष पुरानो छुट्टै राज्य गोर्खाल्याण्डको मांगलाई राज्यको मुख्यमन्त्रीले वाध दिन नसक्ने बताएकी छन्। ‘पहाड़मा विभाजनको नीति अपनाउने मुख्यमन्त्री आफै बंगालदेखि बाहिरिने छिन्’ तिनले भने। अर्कोतिर लेप्चा समुदायलाई औल्याउँदै तिनले पहाड़का सबै लेप्चाहरु एडीसीको पक्षमा नरहेको दावी गरेका छन्। 3 सेप्टम्बरको दिन मेला ग्राउण्डमा सम्पन्न भएको लेप्चा समुदायको कार्यक्रममा पनि धेरजसो लेप्चाहरु सिलगढ़ी अनि सिक्किमबाट आएको तिनको भनाइ छ। ‘दुर्घम क्षेत्रका लेप्चाहरु यदी कार्यक्रममा नआए 250 रुपया जरिमाना तिर्नु पर्ने थियो’ तिनले भने ‘जरिमाना तिर्नुपर्ने ड़रले नै उनीहरु कार्यक्रममा आएका हुन्’। नारी मोर्चा नेतृ लोहारले आज लेप्चा समुदायका प्रतिनिधि एलएस तामसङको व्यक्तिगत जीवनबारे आलोचना गर्दै प्रतिनिधिहरुले बंगालको जाति विभाजनको नीति बुझ्नु पर्ने बताए। जनसभालाई सम्बोधन गर्दै गोटाफो संयोजक आर. मोक्तानले पनि राज्य सरकारले आन्दोलनकारीहरु प्रति गरेको हालको दमननीतिको विरोध जनाएका छन्। तिनले आफ्नो सम्बोधनमा इन्डिजिन्यस लेप्चा ट्राइबल एसोशिएसन(इल्टा)ले उल्टा काम गर्नु नहुने अपिल गरेका छन्। डम्बरचोक परिसरमा आज सम्पन्न भएको जनसभामा मोर्चा नेताहरु विजय सुन्दास, कुमार चामलिङ, क्रामाकपा नेताहरु किशोर प्रधान, मोहन पौडयाल, सुदन प्रधान आदि उपस्तित थिए। शहरमा जुलूस अनि जनसभा क्रमिकरुपमा सम्पन्न भए तापनि बन्द भने यथावत नै रहेको छ। बन्दको कारण यहाँका दोकान-पाट, शैक्षिक संस्थान, यातायात सेवा लगायत सरकारी कार्यलयहरु समेत अचल रहेको छ।

Meeting fails to elect new GTA chief executive

The meeting today to elect a new chief executive of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, which has been lying vacant for over a month, failed to yield any result due to sabhasads abstaining from attending the congregation.

The meeting at the Gorkha Ranga Manch in Darjeeling that started at midday was attended only by the GTA Sabha chairman and his deputy. The GTA principal secretary was also present. The 45 sabhasads, all from the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, remained absent for the duration of the meeting that lasted for more than an hour.

The move to elect a new incumbent failed because the mandatory 1/3rd quorum required was lacking.

“We had sent letters to all GTA elected members to attend today’s meeting. But we could not elect the new chief executive because only two of the sabhasads attended the meeting,” informed GTA Sabha chairman Bhupendra Pradhan and deputy chairman Lobsang Yolmo in a press brief.

Pradhan however, said sabhasads PT Ola and Trilok Chandra Roka were present at the meeting to submit a petition. “The two GTA members came and submitted an appeal for the unconditional release of all arrested GJM leaders and activists including the 10 sabhasads. The petition also states the elected members would not attend any GTA Sabha meetings in future till the arrested are released,” said Pradhan. The petition was signed by 29 sabhasads in all.

The police have arrested 1,025 GJM activists and leaders since July 29, with the latest detention of two persons taking place in Latpanchar on Tuesday.

GJM chief Bimal Gurung had demanded for the unconditional release of all GTA members and GJM leaders as a precondition to attend today’s meeting. In response, the state government had asked the GJM to attend the meeting first. On Tuesday, the GJM president said the elected members would attend the GTA meeting, but with the sole intention of adopting a resolution for the release of those arrested.

Sources have said the 29 elected GTA members signed the petition at the GJM party office in Patlebas this morning, while maintaining that a new chief executive could have been elected from among the 10 arrested sabhasads, and therefore, it did not make sense for the remaining members to attend the meeting.

GTA principal secretary RD Meena, the fifth person to attend the meeting today, said the election process could not be completed given the absence of the GTA members.

“The main agenda today was the election of a new GTA chief executive However, we could not complete the process as the elected members abstained from the meeting,” he said.

Meena also acknowledged about receiving a petition signed by the 29 elected members seeking the release of the arrested people. “I have received the petition and will forward it to the state government for its action,” he said as he stressed he was in no position to comment on the future of the GTA.

Dissident SDF MLA Golay resigns

Marking an end to his more than two decades of association with the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front, dissident MLA Prem Singh Tamang today formally resigned from the party. Tamang aka Golay sent his 14-page resignation to the SDF chief and chief minister Pawan Chamling.

The three-term minister, and now the lone rebel legislator, slammed the Chamling- led party alleging it of massive corruption and dilution of Sikkim’s old laws in spite of them being  guaranteed by Article 371F of the Constitution. The MLA also accused Chamling of failing to deliver on his ‘pro-poor’ promises he had made before seizing power in 1994.

Golay had been openly criticizing Chamling and the CM’s style of functioning ever since winning on a SDF ticket from Upper Burtuk constituency in the 2009 assembly elections. Now, he is most likely to steer the opposition Sikkim Krantikari Morcha that was formed in February 4.

The SDF had long been daring Golay to quit from his post as he doing so would make his seat vacant on the basis of the disqualification clause laud down in the Anti-Defection law.

The MLA’s entry into active politics on the anti-incumbency plank is likely to bother the SDF in the assembly polls to be held around April next year.

बन्द अवधि कालेबुङ आइपुगेकी राज्यकी मुख्यमन्त्री ममता ब्येनरजीले छुट्टै राज्य गोर्खाल्याण्डको विरोधमा यहाँको मेला ग्राउण्डबाट भाषण दिएका थिइन्। आज तिनै मेला ग्राउण्डमा छुट्टै राज्य गोर्खाल्याण्ड प्रेमी हजारौ जनताले मुख्यमन्त्री मुर्दाबादको नारा लगाउँदै छुट्टै राज्यको मांगमा आवज बुलन्द गरेका छन्। आज कालेबुङ महकुमाका विभिन्न क्षेत्रहरुबाट आएका गोर्खाल्याण्ड प्रेमी हजारौ मानिसहरुको भिड़ यहाँको मेनरोड़देखि डम्बरचोकसम्म नै जमेको थियो। मोर्चा कालेबुङ महकुमा समितिको योजना अनुसार डम्बरचोकबाट नै छुट्टै राज्यको पक्षमा विभिन्न प्रकारको नाराबाजी गर्दै विराट जुलूस शुरु भएको थियो। जुलूसमा उपस्थित मानिसहरुले मुख्यमन्त्रीको भाषणको खण्डन गर्दै व्यापक नारा बाजी गर्दै शहर परिक्रमा गरेका थिए। शहर परिक्रमा गर्दै जुलूसमा उपस्थित मानिसहरु नाराबाजीको साथमा नै यहाँको मेला ग्राउण्ड पुगेका थिए। मैदान, ग्यालेरी अनि मञ्चसम्म छरिएर बसेका हजारौ मानिसहरुले एकैसाथमा ‘मुख्यमन्त्री मुर्दावाद’को नारा लगाउँदै गोर्खाल्याण्डको मांगमा मुखर बनेर आवज उठाएका छन्। लामो समयसम्मको नारावाजी पछि आज मेला ग्राउण्डमा नै विराट जनसभा पनि सम्पन्न भयो। आज सम्पन्न भएको जनसभालाई गोर्खाल्याण्ड संयुक्त कार्वाही समितिका अध्यक्ष एनोशदास प्रधान, नारी मोर्चा नेतृ बंदना योञ्जन, विध्यार्थी मोर्चा नेता दिप थापा, जेएसटीओका विजय प्रधान आदिले सम्बोधन गरेका थिए।

आफ्नो सम्बोधनमा समितिका अध्यक्ष एनोशदास प्रधानले मुख्यमन्त्री ममता ब्येनरजीले छुट्टै राज्य अनि गोर्खाहरुको विरोधमा दिएकी भाषणको खण्डन गर्दै 3 सेप्टम्बरलाई गोर्खाहरुको इतिहासमा कालो दिनको रुपमा चिनिने बताए। प्रधानले आजको जनसभामा झारखण्डको राजनीतिक इतिहास उल्लेख गर्दै मुख्यमन्त्री ममता ब्येनरजी जिउँदो रहँदा नै छुट्टै राज्य गोर्खाल्याण्ड निर्माण हुने दावी गरेका छन्। ‘लालुले झारखण्ड मेरो लास माथि बनिन्छ भनेका थिए तर आज लालु जिउँदै छन् अनि झारखण्ड राज्य बनेर विकाश गरिरहेको छ’ प्रधानले भने ‘मुख्यमन्त्री तिमी जिउँदै रहन्छौ अनि गोर्खाल्याण्ड बनिन्छ’। मुख्यमन्त्रीले पहाड़का गोर्खाहरुलाई होच्याउने प्रयास गरिरहेको आरोप लगाउँदै समिति अध्यक्ष प्रधानले राज्य प्रमुखले पहाड़ अनि गोर्खाहरुको इतिहास पढ़नु पर्ने सुझाव दिएका छन्। ‘यतीको अंपढ़ मुख्यमन्त्री मैले मेरो जीवनमा देखेको छुइन’ तिनले भने। आजको जनसभामा सम्बोधन गर्दै तिनले हालैमा दोह्रादुनमा सम्पन्न भएको सम्मेलनमा सामेल बनेका देशका विभिन्न राज्यहरुबाट आएका गोर्खा प्रतिनिधिहरुले दार्जीलिङमा चलिरहेको छुट्टै राज्यको आन्दोलनलाई समर्थन गरेको बताउँदै पहाड़को आन्दोलनले अब जन-आन्दोलनको रुप लिएको दावी गरेका छन्। ‘अब यो आन्दोलनले सिक्किम, आसाम, मेघाल्य, देह्रादुन, उत्तरखण्ड अनि दिल्लीका सड़कहरु गर्जिनु पर्छ’ तिनले भने ‘सारा भारत भरिनै गोर्खाल्याण्डको आवज उठे ममता ब्येनरजीको केही सिप चल्दैन’। खाध्यसामाग्री अनि यातायात सेवा बन्द गर्ने मुख्यमन्त्रीको बयानको पनि तिनले कड़ा रुपमा विरोध गरेका छन्। ‘संसदमा खाध्य सुरक्षा बिल पारित भएको छ’ तिनले भने ‘हाम्रो अधिकार रोक्ने ममता ब्येनरजी को हो’?  ओड़िसा, आसम अनि बिहारबाट राशिन ल्याएर पनि पहाड़वासीलाई समस्यामा नपार्ने तिनले आशवसन दिएका छन्। गोर्खाल्याण्ड संयुक्त कार्वाही समितिको निर्देशमा हाल एक टोली नेतृत्वहरु दिल्ली भ्रमणमा रहेको बताउँदै तिनले दिल्लीको सकारात्मक आशवसनलाई केन्द्र गरि समितिले चाड़ैनै बैठक गरेर अघिल्लो रणनीति तयार गर्ने जानकारी दिएका छन्। यसै जनसमावेशलाई सम्बोधन गर्दै नारी मोर्चा नेतृ बंदना योञ्जनले मुख्यमन्त्रीको आड़मा लेप्चा समुदायका प्रतिनिधिहरुले पहाड़मा जातीय विभाजन गर्ने प्रयास गरिरहेको आरोप लगाएका छन्। ‘छुट्टै राज्य गोर्खाल्याण्ड नभइञ्जेलसम्म हामी विभाजन हुनुहुँदैन तिनले अपिल’ गरेका छन्। यता विमो नेता दीप थापाले आजको जनसभालाई सम्बोधन गर्दै पहाड़का तृणमूल नेताहरुको आलोचना गरेका छन्। विध्यार्थीहरु सामेल बनेर हाल छुट्टै राज्यको निम्ति जन-आन्दोलन गरिरहेको समय विमो नेताहरुलाई पुलिसले पक्राउ गरेकोमा विरोध जनाउँदै तिनले प्रशासनको यस प्रकारको नीतिको विमोले कड़ारुपमा विरोध जनाउने बताए। मोर्चाले सर्वभारतीय गोर्खाहरुको निम्ति छुट्टै राज्यको मांग गरिरहेको बताउँदै विमो नेता दीप थापाले आफ्ने सम्बोधनमा केवल एउटा जातिको निम्तिमात्र व्यवस्था ल्याएर लेप्चा प्रतिनिधिहरुले स्वर्थपुर्तीको काम गरेको आरोप लगाएका छन्। अन्तमा तिनले लेप्चा प्रतिनिधि एलएस तामसङले गोर्खाहरुले दिएको साथ पैसा अनि सहुलियतमा साटेको आरोप लगाएका छन्।

जनताले कालेबुङमा तृणमूलको झण्डा जलाए

गोर्खाल्याण्ड संयुक्त कार्वाही समितिको पुर्वधोषणा अनुरुप आज कालेबुङका जनसाधरण सड़कमा थिए। मुख्यमन्त्रीको भ्रमण अवधि सफलतापूर्वक दुइ दिन घरभित्र जनता कार्यक्रम पालन गरिसकेका कालेबुङका जनताले आज सड़कमा आएर छुट्टै राज्य गोर्खाल्याण्डको मांगमा व्यापक नारावाजी गरे। गोर्खाल्याण्डको विरोधमा मुख्यमन्त्रीले दिएको भाषणको कारण आक्रोषित बनेका कालेबुङका जनताले आज यहाँको मेनरोड़मा मुख्यमन्त्रीको फोटो भएको फेषटुन अनि तृणमूल कंग्रेसको झण्डाहरु जलाएर  विरोध प्रदर्शन गरे। समितिको घोषणालाई समर्थन गर्दै जनसाधरण सड़कमा उत्रे तापनि यहाँको दोकान-पाटहरु भने आजसम्म पनि अचल नै रहेको छ। पहाड़मा चलिरहेको छुट्टै राज्यको आन्दोलन प्रति सरकारको ध्यान केन्द्रीत गर्न मोर्चा अनि गोजोएक-ले क्रमिकरुपमा पहाड़ बन्द गर्ने निर्णय लियो पछि आजसम्म पनि पहाड़ बन्द नै रहेको छ। बन्दको चपेटमा परेर यहाँका शैक्षिक संस्थानहरु, यातायात सेवा, ब्यांक, ड़ाकघरलगायत अधिकांश सरकारी कार्यलयहरु ठप्प बनेकोछ। बन्द अवधि शहरमा कानुन श्रंखला बनाइ राख्न पुलिसले कड़ा सुरक्षा व्यवस्था मिलाएको छ। केन्द्रीय अर्धसैनिक बल,आरआइबी अनि पुलिसका जवानहरुले शहरको विभिन्न स्थानहरुमा घस्ती लगाइरहेका छन्। यता पत्रकारहरुसंग कुराकानी गर्दै समितिका अध्यक्ष एनोशदास प्रधानले 5 सेप्टम्बरको दिन सम्पन्न हुने सर्वदलिय बैठकले नै बन्दबारे निर्णय लिने बताएका छन्।

एलडीबीको लागी कैयौं लोभलाग्दा योजना र सहुलियतहरू

कालेबुङ 3 सेप्टेम्बर(प्रदीप)ः- लेप्चाहरूको ‘भाग्यविधाता’ बनेर पहाड चढेकी मुख्यमंत्री ममता व्यानर्जीले पनि यो जातिका मानिसहरूलाई निराश पारिनन। लेप्चाहरूको आशाअनुरुप मुख्यमंत्रीले कैयौं लोभलाग्दा योजना र सहुलियतहरूको घोषणा गरेर यो जातिका मानिसहरूको मन जित्न सफल भएकी छन। मायालल्याङ लेप्चा विकास बोर्डको गठनको घोषणा गरिएको दोस्रो बर्षगाँठको अवसरमा भाग्यविधाताको सम्मान ग्रहण गर्न आएकी मुख्यमंत्रीले समारोहमा भेला भएका लगभग आठ हजार लेप्चाहरूको अघि कैयौं आकर्षक योजनाहरूको ‘छडी’ नै घुमाइन्। तिनले आज घोषणा गरेका सबै योजना र सहुलियतहरू लेप्चा बोर्डले समयमै क्रियान्वयन गर्न सकेको खण्डमा ‘किनारीकृत’ भनिएको यो जातिको अर्थ-सामाजिक स्थितिमा अप्रत्याशित सुधार आउनेछ। लेप्चा जातिको सर्वाङ्गिण विकास र प्रवर्द्धनको निम्ति सरकारबाट हुनुपर्ने तत्परता र संरक्षणका आश्वास्नहरू मुख्ज्यमंत्रीले केही नछोडी खन्याएर गएकी छन। तिनले लेप्चा विकास बोर्डको निम्ति थप पचास करोड रुपियाँ अनुदानसँगै कैयौं आकर्षक योजनाहरूको घोषणा गरेकी छन। मुख्यमंत्रीले लेप्चा विकासको बोर्डको मुख्यालय स्थापना गर्न यहाँको टाउन हलको विपरित अवस्थित जमिनलाई छनौट गरिएको जानकारी दिइन। तिनले आगामी बर्षको शैक्षिक सत्रदेखि पहाडका प्राथमिक पाठशालाहरूमा लेप्चा भाषालाई पनि पठनपाठनको विषयको रुपमा सामेल गरिने घोषणा गरिन। यसबाहेक यस जातिको सांस्कृतिक मुल्यहरूको संरक्षण र प्रवर्द्धनको निम्ति लेप्चा सांस्कृतिक अनि धरोहर केन्द्र अनि लेप्चा कलासंगीतको प्रवर्द्धनको निम्ति लेप्चा एकाडेमीको गठन गर्ने घोषना गरेकी छन। लेप्चा धरोहर केन्द्रको स्थापनाको निम्ति सरकारले शुरुमा 25 लाख रू प्रदान गर्ने तिनले घोषना गरिन। लेप्चा समुदायका मानिसहरूको निम्ति प्रतिपरिवार दुइ लाख खर्चेर एक हजार वटा घर पनि निर्मान गरिदिने कुरा तिनको घोषनाको सूचीमा सामेल थियो। मुख्यमंत्रीले क्षेत्रका विकलाङ्गहरूद्वारा निर्माण गरिने हस्तकलाका सामग्रीहरूको उत्पादन र प्रवर्द्धनको निम्ति पनि दस लाख रू प्रदान गरिने घोषणा गरेकी छन। यसबाहेक पहाडका बेरोगजार युवाहरूलाई अवसर प्रदान गर्ने उद्देश्यले पाँच हजार पुलिसकर्मी नियुक्त गर्ने तिनले घोषना गरेकी छन। घोषणा नै पछिको ताली र सुसेलीले हौसिएकी मुख्यमंत्रीले यस दिन लेप्चाहरूको दूर्दशाप्रति पनि निकै चिन्ता व्यक्त गरिन।  “लेप्चाहरूले दिएको सम्मानको निम्ति म आभारी छु। जति दिन जीवित रहन्छु, म तपाईँहरूको कार्यक्रममा सामेल हुन आइ नै रहनेछु” लभगभ भाव अभिभुत नै भएर मुख्यमंत्रीले भनिन।

पश्चिम बङ्गकी मुख्यमंत्री ममता व्यानर्जीले एकजना शायरको जस्तो अन्दाजमा उपर्युक्त कुरा भनेर आन्दोलनकारी नेतृत्वप्रति आफ्नो धारणा व्यक्त गर्ने कोसिस गरेकी छन। तिनले गोर्खाल्याण्ड आन्दोलनकारीहरूको धरती टेकेर राज्यकी मुख्यमञ्त्री ममता व्यानर्जीले बङ्गाल विभाजन नहुने आफ्नो अडान दोहोर्‍याएकी छन। आज कालेबुङमा लेप्चाहरूबाट भाग्यविधाताको उपाधी ग्रहण गरेपछि  आफ्नो आधा घण्टाको सम्बोधनमा तिनले लेप्चाहरूको हक हितको जति पैरवी गरिन् त्योभन्दा बढी उर्जा आन्दोलनकारी नेतृत्वहरूलाई आफ्नो ‘दुइ कुरा’ सुनाउनलाई नै खर्च गरिन्। ‘अचुले’ र खामरीमो’ भनेर आफ्नो भाषण शुरु गरेकी मुख्यमञ्त्रीले पहिले लेप्चा विकास बोर्डबारे नै केन्द्रित भएकी थिइन्। भाषणको क्रमको मध्यदेखि तिनले ताजा आन्दोलन र मोर्चाप्रति टिप्पणी गर्न शुरु गरिन्, जुन क्रम तिनको भाषणको अन्त्यै सम्म रह्यो। छुट्टै राज्यको मागविरुद्ध आफ्नो आक्रमकतालाई कायम राख्दै मुख्यमञ्त्रीले भनिन्, ‘तिमीहरू दिल्ली छोडी त ओबामाकहाँ नै जाऊ, यो हाम्रो हो, हाम्रै रहन्छ’ तिनले आफ्नो भाषणको क्रममा मोर्चा र अन्य आन्दोलनकारी नेतृत्वको नाम त लिइनन तर तिनको इशारा कता हो भन्ने कुरा बुझ्न पनि गाह्रो थिएन।तिनले आन्दोलनकारीहरूको चिन्हारीको तर्कलाई पनि हल्कै उडाइन्। तिनले जीटीएलाई नै गोर्खाल्याण्डको समान्तर व्यावस्थाका रुपमा व्याख्या गर्दै भनिन्, ‘आइडेण्टिटीको कुरा गर्छन्।सबै कुरा दिइएको छ, अझै केको आइडेंटिटी? यसको लागि त काम गर्नुपर्छ। जनतालाई भोकै राखेर हुँदैन” गोर्खाल्याण्ड आन्दोलनकारीहरूले बङ्गाल चाहिँदैन भन्ने गरे पनि सबै कुराको निम्ति यही निर्भर हुनुपरेको तिनको आशय थियो। ‘बंगाल चाहिँदैन भन्छन् तर खानापिना कहाँबाट आउँछ?’ तिनले भनिन्। आन्दोलन र बन्दका कारण सर्वसाधारणले व्यापक असुबिधा झेल्नु परिरहेको भए पनि नेतृत्व र तिनका परिवारले सुख सुविधा भोगिरहेको तिनको आरोप थियो। लामो समयदेखि जारी रहेको बन्दको कारण कालेबुङको प्रसिद्ध शैक्षिक संस्थान डा ग्राह्मस होम्स बन्दको संघारमा पुगेको दाबी गर्दै मुख्यमत्रीले भनिन, “आफ्ना नानीहरोलाई न्युजिल्याण्ण्ड, अष्ट्रेलियातिर पढ्न पठाउँछन अनि गाँउ बस्तीका नानीहरू पढ्ने स्कूल-कलेज बन्द राख्छन। यो के हो?जसको नोक्सान हुँदैछ, उसैलाई मात्र थाहा हुन्छ। जसको नानीहरू विदेशमा पड्छन, उनीहरूलाई जनताको नानीहरूको भविष्यको सरोकार हुदैँन” लेप्चाहरूलाई यहाँको मूल रैथाने जातिको संज्ञा दिँदै यो जातिले लामो समयदेखि बञ्चना र किनारीकृत भएर बाँच्नु परेको भए पनि कहिले पृथक हुने कुरा नगरेको तिनको भनाइ थियो। “यहाँको सबभन्दा पुरानो जाति लेप्चा हुन तर उनीहरूले कहिले लेप्चाल्याण्ड चाहियो भनेर भनेका छैनन। कहिले सरकारले डिभाइड एण्ड रुल गर्‍यो भनेर भनेन। उनीहरूले कहिले देशलाई खण्डित पार्ने कुरा गरेनन। बुदिष्टहरूले पनि आफ्नो ल्याण्डको कुरा गरेका छैनन। तपाइँहरू मात्र किन यस्तो बदमाशी गर्नु हुन्छ हँ? कहिले यो चाहियो, कहिले त्यो चाहियो। दार्जीलिङ पहाडको बिकासको निम्ति राज्यले गर्नु पर्ने सबै काम गरिएको छ। तपाईहरूले जीटीए मग्नु भयो, हामीले त्यो बनाइ दियौ। अरु के चाहियो?हामीले यसको निम्ति प्रशस्त कोष पनि उपलब्ध गरिदिएका छौं। तर जलाउने, भत्काउने काम मात्र भइरहेको छ। पहाडमा व्यापार र निवेश गर्न कोही तयार छैन” मुख्यमंत्रीले भनिन्। तिनले राज्य विभाजन नहुने किटान नै गर्दै भनिन. “नो सेपेरेशन, नो डिभीजन” जीटीएको गठनपछि पहाड हास्दैँछ भन्ने मुख्यमंत्रीले आज आफ्नो कुरालाई केही घुमाएर भनिन,’म कञ्चनजङ्गालाई माया गर्छु, पहाडका सबै जात जातिलाई माया गर्छु। म कञ्चनजङ्गा रोएको हेर्न चहाँदिनँ” तिनले मोर्चालाई भोलि हुने जीटीए प्रमुखको चुनाउको बैठकमा भाग लिने आह्वान पनि गरेका छन। तिनले मोर्चालाई आग्रह गरेको स्वरमा भनिन, “कृपा गरी तपाईँहरू जीटीए बडीको प्रमुखको चयन गर्नु होस। राम्रोसँगले काम गर्नोस।दार्जीलिङलाई बचाउनु होस।पहाडलाई खत्तम नपार्नोस। जनताले नेता बनाउँछ, फ्याँक्छ पनि” तिनले बन्द हुनु नहुने विचार प्रकट गर्दै सरकारी कर्मचारीहरूलाई पनि काममा फर्किने निवेदन गरेकी छन। “बन्द गर्नेहरूले सरकारी कर्मचारीहरूलाई पनि काम गर्न बाधा दिँदैछन। काम गर्न चाहानेहरू अघि आऊ नत्र नयाँ भाइ बहिनीहरूले काम गर्नेछन”

Amra Bangali rallies demanding Gurung’s arrest

Supporters of local outfit Amra Bangali today conducted a rally demanding the arrest of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung and the cancellation of the GTA deal terming it unconstitutional.

Speaking at the Siliguri Journalists’ Club, Amra Bangali secretary Basudev Saha said a separate statehood should not be granted at any cost. He said the party would organise bigger rallies in Siliguri demanding the cancellation of the GTA and the arrest of Gurung.

Saha further threatened to intensify protests if the outfit’s demands are not met, adding the state government would be held responsible for any untoward incident. He also said the Congress and CPM are trying to leverage the current situation for selfish gains.

Mamata arrives to receive ‘Kingstoom Dartim’ honour

The Kalimpong section of the Lepcha community will on Tuesday honour chief minister Mamata Banerjee with the ‘Kingstoom Dartim’ (bestower of fortune) title.

The CM arrived in Kalimpong around 4 pm today under tight security. Several Lepcha community members had gathered on the way to welcome her. Banerjee also walked some distance and was garlanded with ‘khadas’. She then went to the Circuit House at Durpin to spend the night but before that, she addressed the Lepchas at the Town Hall who greeted her with ‘Achuley’ to celebrate her coming to the Hills.

The police and administration were on high alert with tight security prevailing in the area since Sunday. Several top officials of the North Bengal police department surveyed the town in advance to avert any untoward incident, especially when relations between Banerjee and the GJM are at their nadir. The CM did not talk with media personnel present at the Circuit House.

The felicitation programme at Mela Ground is scheduled to begin at 11am on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the GJM, GJAC and Lepcha community members in Darjeeling have displayed their ire at the lack of solidarity being portrayed by the decision of the Kalimpong Lepchas to go ahead with their felicitation programme.

“The state government is creating division not only between the Gorkhas and Lepchas but also within our community. They (Kalimpong Lepchas) should not be indifferent to the common sentiment and aspirations of the Hills people,” said Hemant Lepcha, vice president of the Darjeeling-based All India Lepcha Association (AILA)

BANDH ‘TOTAL’ IN HILLS GJAC delegation meets Joshi in Delhi

Darjeeling town wore a desolated look today on the first day of the Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee-led ‘ghar bhitra janta’ (people remaining indoors) agitation even as chief minister Mamata Banerjee made her way up to Kalimpong to attend a felicitation programme by the Lepcha community on Tuesday.

The chief minister interacted with district administration officials and took stock of the situation in the hills given the ongoing statehood agitation led by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.

On August 30, the GJAC, a conglomerate of seven political and apolitical bodies, including the GJM, announced a two-day ‘ghar bhitra janta’ programme on September 2 and 3, which would transform into the ‘sadak ma janta’ (people outside their homes) agitation from the next day onwards.

“The people have made the programme successful. The town looked like a cantonment as only security forces were on the streets,” said GJAC chairman Enos Das Pradhan.

He also expressed hope of some positive response coming forth within a few days from the centre. “Former and present MPs and MLAs are presently in New Delhi trying to meet UPA leaders. We hope to get some kind of response from Delhi within a few days,” said Pradhan.

Meanwhile, the GJAC delegation today met Congress general secretary CP Joshi and apprised him of the situation in the Darjeeling hills.

“We met the Congress general secretary and informed him about the current situation. He said he was aware of everything and that he would try to do something to solve the problem,” said Darjeeling MLA Trilok Dewan over phone from Delhi.

The delegation is likely to meet Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Tuesday.

Party spearheading agitation insincere: Chewang Bhutia

Hills Trinamool leader Chewang Bhutia today said there is no opposition to the question of identity, but rues the absence of a sincere and proper leadership to the ongoing agitation. He said it is due to the absence of a sincere leadership that he chose to work for the betterment of the Hills through the TMC.  Bhutia was present at Kalimpong main road preparing to welcome chief minister Mamata Bannerjee as he interacted with journalists. He added nobody in the Hills opposes the idea of a separate state.

Pointing at the GJM, the TMC leader said, “The leaders of the agitation are making people fools and bargaining only for money. We support the question of identity. We are not opposing Gorkhaland, but since we didn’t find a sincere leadership, we joined the TMC.”

Bhutia also rubbished allegations that the Hills TMC is trying to gain political leverage from the upcoming programme of the Lepchas. He said, “We are party workers. We are putting up party flags since the party chief is coming. The question of political gains doesn’t arise.”

The TMC leader further said the chief minister’s visit to Kalimpong during a vulnerable time reflects her sincere effort to spread the message of peace and harmony. “We are all brothers. We all want to live in harmony, but the party leading the agitation and its leadership has no legitimacy. They don’t even have a strong issue to pursue. Their programmes and ideas both reek of weakness,” he said, adding, “The GJM leadership is trying to fool the people by promising to scrap the GTA.”

GTA sabhasads urge ILTA to rally for Gorkhaland

GTA sabhashad and Mirik GJM president Fubi Rai today appealed to the Indigenous Lepcha Tribal Association to seriously assess the ‘divide and rule’ policy of the state government following its decision to form a Lepcha Development Council. He said the state government is instigating communal discord in the hills in order to further oppress the people.

Addressing a huge gathering of people dressed in traditional attire, Rai said, “The Bengal government is trying to break our unity and it is very essential for our Lepcha brethren to understand this. They must come forward in support of the ongoing agitation. Once a separate state is formed they can demand anything.”

He added the Lepchas should not fall for the state government’s tricks, saying the ongoing agitation is a mass movement that is giving “plenty of headaches to the Mamata government”.

Meanwhile, GTA sabhashad Arun Ghising stressed on putting up a united fight. “All the communities in the hills must come together. We can succeed only if united,” he said.

 The Vidhyarthi Morcha took out a procession in Soureni Bazaar in the afternoon following which a singing campaign was held. Another rally was brought out in Phuguri jointly by the GJM and CPRM.

Huge police force deployed in Kalimpong ahead of Mamata visit

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to visit Kalimpong on September 3 to accept the “bestower of fortune” title from the Lepcha community. But it remains to be seen whether the public will turn out in large numbers as the GJAC has called its aghar bhitra janta’ (public remaining indoors) programme on the same day.

Banerjee’s upcoming visit has been preceded by the presence of a huge police force in town. The Thana Dara area appeared like a police camp as the top brass, including North Bengal IG S Pujari, Darjeeling Police Superintendent Kunal Agarwal and Darjeeling Range Assistant Superintendent Javed Samim were all present there.

Hundreds of policemen from Darjeeling, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri and North Dinajpur were also seen parading in full regalia.

Pujari held a three-hour meeting in the town hall with his colleagues and district administration officials on the high profile visit. Security has been tightened heavily to prevent any untoward incident during Banerjee’s stay here.

The IG also inspected the Mela Ground premises where preparations for the programme are on. The felicitation ceremony, being organised by the Indigenous Lepcha Tribal Association, is expected to be attended by 25,000-odd community members, according to ILTA president LS Tamsang. Sources have said many Lepchas from faraway regions will walk all the way to Mela Ground.

Lepchas withdraw peace demonstration following BGP president appeal

Members of the Lepcha community, who were agitating for restoration of peace under the ‘Hill People’ banner, today withdrew their protest following an appeal from Bharatiya Gorhka Parisangh president Enos Das Pradhan.

Nima Lepcha, who was leading the peace demonstration in Kalimpong, said the decision to withdraw was taken after discussing Pradhan’s request made through the media. Lepcha Rights’ Movement coordinator Bhupendra Lepcha also said the decision to withdraw came after Pradhan, who is also the GJAC president, made an appeal.

Referring to those leading the statehood agitation, Bhupendra said, “They understand much more than we do. They must have made the appeal after much thought. We have decided to withdraw respecting Dr. Pradhan’s request.”

When asked about the reason for staging the peace demonstration, he said it was mainly to express dissatisfaction with the repressive approach of the state government. Bhupendra said many innocent people had to face undue harassment and felt terrorised by the spate of rampant arrests throughout the hills.

At the same time, the coordinator denied allegations about the state government trying to create a communal divide in the hills by bringing the Lepchas into play. Reiterating the Lepchas urge all stakeholders not to politicise the issue of the formation of the Lepcha Development Board, he said, “Uniting-dividing is an internal matter. It is incorrect to say that someone has incited us. We understand what the state government is doing.”

Rubbishing talks that the peace demonstration was to target the chief minister’s upcoming visit to Kalimpong, Bhupendra said, “It is due to the difference in perception that these doubts have surfaced. Perception should be changed first. We want brotherhood among us and we should all carefully analyse what forces are trying to bring a division among us.”

Responding to a question on BGP’s appeal to join the statehood movement, the coordinator stressed the Lepchas have never remained aloof from the agitation. “Many Lepchas can be seen in rallies and demonstrations. We were participating in the past and are also doing so in the present,” he remarked.

31 अगष्टको दिन दार्जीलिङमा सम्पन्न भएको गोर्खाल्याण्ड संयुक्त कार्वाही समितिको बैठकले छुट्टै राज्यको मांगमा बन्द गर्ने निर्णय लियो पछि आज सम्पूर्ण पहाड़ नै बन्द रह्यो। समितिको घोषणा अनुरुप यता कालेबुङ शहर पनि बन्द रहेको थियो। बन्द अवधि गोर्खा जनमुक्ति मोर्चा कालेबुङ महकुमा समितिले शहरमा जुलूस अनि जनसभा गर्ने घोषणा गरेको भएपनि सो आज सम्पन्न भएन। आज विहान यहाँको डम्बरचोकमा मोर्चा नेता अनि कार्यकर्ताहरुको उपस्थिति रहेको थियो भने पार्टीले कार्यक्रममा फेरबदल गरेपछि शहरमा जुलूस अनि जनसभा हुन सकेन। अर्कोतिर बन्दको कारण आज कालेबुङ शहर पुर्णरुपले ठप्प रह्यो। समितिले लिएको निर्णयलाई समर्थन गर्दै शहरवासीले दोकान-पाटहरु बन्द गरे भने केवल औषधी विक्रेता दोकनहरुमात्र आज खुल्ला रहेको थियो। पहाड़ बन्दको कारण आज यहाँको यातायात सेवा पनि अचल रहेकोछ। कालेबुङबाट आज कुनै पनि यात्रीवाहक वहानहरु गुडेको देखिएन। शहरको मुल मार्गहरुमा केवल सेना अनि पुलिसको वहानहरु मात्र देखा परेको थियो। बन्दको कारण यातायात सेवा प्रभावित हुँदा आज धेरैजान लेप्चा समुदायका मानिसहरु विभिन्न क्षेत्रहरुबाट पैदल हिड़ेर नै कालेबुङ शहर आइपुगेका थिए। यस भन्द अघिको बन्दले नै ठप्प बनेको यहाँका शैक्षिक संस्थानहरु आजसम्म पनि अचल अवस्थामा रहेको छ। बन्दको चपेटमा परेर यहाँका ब्यांक, डाक-घर लगायत अधिकांश सरकारी कार्यलयहरु अचल रहेको छ। शान्तिमय ढंगमा आज समितिले ड़ाकेको एकदिवसीय पहाड़ बन्द सफल भएको छ भने अवधि कुनै प्रकारको अप्रिय घटनाहरु घटेन। शहरमा शान्ति श्रंखला बनाइ राख्न पुलिस अनि सीआरपीएफका जवानहरु शहरको विभिन्न स्थानहरुमा तैनाथ रहेका थिए। अर्कोतिर मुख्यमन्त्री ममता व्येनरजीको कालेबुङ भ्रमणलाई केन्द्र गर्दै आज प्रशासनका उच्च अधिकारीहरुले शहरको निरिक्षण गरे। मुख्यमन्त्रीको भ्रमणलाई लिएर प्रशासनले शहरमा कड़ा सुरक्षा व्यवस्था मिलाएको छ।

‘हिल पिपल्स्’-को व्यानरमा शान्ति स्थापनाको माग गर्दै लेप्चा समुदायले तीनदेखि शुरु गरेको धरना उठाइदिने गोर्खाल्याण्ड जोइन्ट एक्सन कमिटीका अध्यक्ष एवं भारतीय गोर्खा परिसङ्घका राष्ट्रिय अध्यक्ष डा. एनोस् दास प्रधानले आह्वान गरेका छन्| आज एक पत्रकार सम्मेलन डाकेर उनले भने, गोर्खाल्याण्ड आन्दोलनले तीब्रता पक्रिरहेको छ| सबै पहाडका जनता सडकमा छन्| योबेला लेप्चा समुदाय अलग्गिएर शान्ति स्थापनाको नाममा धरना गर्नुले पहाडी अञ्चलमा जातीय विभाजनको सन्देश देशभरि छरिएको छ| हामीलाई हेला गरिएको छ, किनारीकृत गरिएकको भन्नेकिमिसको हाम्रैभित्रको एक जाति विशेषबाट सङ्केत जानु अत्यन्त दुर्भाग्यजनक हो| यसैले उनीहरूलाई धरना उठाएर अलग राज्य गोर्खाल्याण्ड आन्दोलनको मागमा सरिक हुन आह्वान गर्छौं| लेप्चा र गोर्खाहरूको एकता अनि जातीय सद्भावना सधैं कायम रहने प्रतिवद्धता व्यक्त गर्दै राज्य सरकारको जाति विभाजनको नीतिविरूद्ध डा. प्रधानले विरोध जनाएका छन्| मुख्यमन्त्री ममता व्यानर्जीको जाति विभागजनको कुचेष्टालाई उनले दुर्भाग्यजनक रहेको बताउँदै भने, योबेला उनी पहाड आएर के प्रमाण गर्न खौज्दैछन्? पहाड आउनुपर्छ तर उपर्युक्त समयमा| वर्तमान स्थितिमा पहाडमा जाति विभाजनको नीति नआप्नाइदिने प्रधानले निवेदन गरेका छन्| यसअवधी एक प्रश्‍नको उत्तरमा उनले जीटीए सञ्चालनमा आउनेबित्तिकै गोजएकको एकता तोडिने बताए| उनीअनुसार, अहिलेको साझा टेबल इमान्दारिता अनि विश्‍वासमा अडेको छ| जुन दिन विश्‍वास तोडिन्छ गोजएक सकिन्छ| गोजमुमोले पनि जीटीएमा नफर्किने कमिटीलाई प्रतिश्रुती दिएको छ| यद्यपि, आगामी ४ सितम्बरको दिन सम्पन्न हुन गइरहेको जीटीए सभामा सभा प्रमुखको चयन गरेपनि गोजएकलाई फरक पर्दैन| किनभने, जीटीएको चिफ चयन गर्दैमा जीटीए सञ्चचान हुन्छ भन्ने होइन तर जीटीएलाई कामै गर्नु दिनुहुँदैन भन्ने प्रधानको विचार छ| उनले एक प्रश्‍नको उत्तरमा अझ भनेअनुसार, केही दिनअघि मोर्चा प्रमुखले गोर्खाल्याण्डको विकल्पको कुरा गरेको सन्दर्भमा हिजोको बैठकमा चर्चा भएन| गोजएकले एकातिर आन्दोलनलाई नेतृत्व दिइरहेको भएपनि गोजएकले फ्यॉंकेको कार्यक्रममा मोर्चाले बीचैमा आफ्नो कार्यक्रम फ्यॉंकेर हस्तक्षेप गर्दा कमिटीभित्रका दलहरूमा विश्‍वास हराउने अनि अब यस्तो कार्य दोहोरिनुनहुन हिजोको बैठकमा चर्चा भएको उनले जनाएका छन्| यसैबीच मोर्चा महासिचव रोशन गिरीको दिल्ली भ्रमणसम्बन्धमा बढेको चर्चालाई उनले साम्य गर्दै, बन्द सम्बन्धमा सर्वोच्च न्यायलमा इस्टे निकाल्न उनी दिल्ली गरेको स्पष्टिकरण दिएका छन्| उनले अझ भने गोजएकबाट गोर्खालीग, गोर्खा राष्ट्रीय कङ्ग्रेस अनि गोरानिमो बाहिरिनु दुर्भाग्यजनक हो| तर गोर्खा राष्ट्रिय कङ्ग्रेससित मुद्दा नै नमिल्ने भएकोले उनीहरू बाहिरिँदा फरक पर्दैन अनि गोर्खालीग र गोरानिमोको निम्ति कमिटीको दैलो खुल्ला गरेको छ| राष्ट्रीय गैरराजनैतिक संस्था भारतीय गोर्खा परिसङ्घ, आञ्चलिक शक्तिशाली दल क्रमाकपा अनि गोर्खा जनमुक्ति मोर्चा एकठाउँ रहनु महत्वपूर्ण हो| यद्यपि, गोजएकको गठन भइसकेपछि पनि गोर्खाल्याण्ड टास्क फोर्स जीवित छ| मोर्चाप्रति अझ पनि अन्य दलहरूको विश्‍वास नभएर नै गोटाफोलाई अस्तित्वमा राखिरहेको चर्चा आम बनेको छ| यसैले योबेला पनि गोटाफो किन अस्तित्वमा छ भन्ने प्रश्‍नको भने उत्तर उनले दिन चाहेनन्| यसअवधी उनले भोलि पूर्व सासंद, विधायक आदिको टोली दिल्ली प्रस्थान हुने जानकारी गराएका छन्| उनीअनुसार, पूर्व सासंद आरबी राई पूर्व विधायक गौलन लेप्चा, शान्ता छेत्री, एनबी छेत्री भागोपका सुखमान मोक्तान आदि टोलीमा सामेल हुने सम्भावना छ भने दिल्लीमा नै सांसद जसवन्त सिंह अनि केबी छेत्री टोलीमा थपिनेछन्| टोलीले मुख्य रुपले देशका गृहन्त्रीलाई भेट्ने मन बनाएको छ| तर ५ सितम्बरसम्म उनलाई भेट गर्न नसकिने सम्भावना भएकोले त्यसपछि भेट हुनसक्ने प्रधानले बताए|
