Suraksha Aviyan Trust, a NGO working for eradication of child labour,
has formed a vigilance committee at Pedong to keep watch on trafficking
of children from the area. BSAT, in association with social organisation
Anujyal initiated this move as part of the ‘Towards a Child Labour Free
Society’ campaign run by Data Sanstha Karitas India.
The vigilance committee comprises
regional GTA Sabhashad Dawa Lepcha, Padam Gurung, Vhakta Rai, Amrit Rai,
Thendup T Bhutia, PB Rai, Basanta Kanu, PS Tamang and other residents.
Its task is to keep watch on incidents of child right violations in the
region and continuous efforts to curb them. One such vigilance committee
has been formed at Upper Dalep.
