Darjeeling, Feb. 3: The Queen of the Hills will have one more cable car service for tourists sooner or later with a proposal being mooted for the revival of the ropeway between Darjeeling and Bijanbari. The 8km-long ropeway, used for the transport of goods, has been defunct for over two decades. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railways has planned to revive a 2km stretch of the ropeway and convert it into a passenger conveyance. RITES, a central government enterprise, has already conducted a feasibility study and given its nod for the revival of the ropeway. “The survey by the RITES is over and we have sent a proposal to the Railway Board for the revival of the service. The total cost of the project has been pegged at Rs 18 crore,” said Partha Pratim Roy, the director of the DHR. The nod is considered to be a mere formality as the resumption of the service had been announced by Mamata Banerjee when she was the railway minister. The 5km ropeway service between Singamari and Vah-Tukvar resumed yesterday after a gap of eight years. The rides had been suspended on October 19, 2003, when four passengers died after three cars jumped the cable and fell 50 feet below. Sources said the Darjeeling hills could have more cable car services soon. “Initial works have started to launch ropeways between Dello and Relli in Kalimpong and between Kurseong and Rohini,” said a source. DHR officials said it was likely to take “some time” before the defunct ropeway became operational as procedures like floating of tenders could be completed only after the sanction came from the Railway Board. The ropeway between Darjeeling and Bijanbari downhill was operated without cable cars as it transported goods. It started at Judge Bazar in Darjeeling and ended at Bijanbari after crossing Happy Valley, Singtom and Chungthung tea gardens. “I remember that the service was functional till 1986. The ropeway was much sought after by people to ferry goods between Darjeeling and Bijanbari,” said Rabin Rai, a resident of Singtom tea garden. However, Roy said: “We only plan a truncated passenger service between Singtom and Chungthung tea gardens (about 2.5km downhill).” The DHR believes there would be no takers for the goods service any more as communication between Darjeeling and Bijanbari has improved. “It would be difficult to revive the entire ropeway as high tension lines have come up along the route,” said Roy. 80 को दशकमा देशभरिका गोर्खाहरूलाई जातित्वको भावना उत्पन्न गराउने प्रथम नेता सुवास घिसिङको निधनले अहिले घड़ी सम्पूर्ण दार्जीलिङ पहाड़ नै स्तब्ध बनेको छ। गोर्खाहरूका हित अनि अस्तित्वका निम्ति छुट्टै राज्यको बहस लिएर सुवास धिसिङले त्यसताक पहाड़का प्रत्येक गाँऊहरूको भ्रमण गरेका थिए। 22 जुन 1936 सालमा मिरिकको मञ्जु चियाबगानमा जन्म लिएरका सुवास घिसिङले आफ्नो तर्क राख्न एकलै जनसभा गर्थे। घिसिङले सम्पूर्ण गोर्खाहरूलाई एकै शुत्रमा बाँध्न "गोर्खाल्याण्ड" शब्दको जन्म गरेका थिए।

More cable cars to ride over Darjeeling

On the basis of Comptroller Auditor General of India[CAG] report Shri Anand lama of Gangtok had filled the W.P (C) No. 40 of 2011 in Sikkim High Court in which the scam of more than Rs. 10,000 crore scam in the hydro power projects was highlighted.
In the mean time petitioner Mr. Anand lama had filled a transfer petition in the Supreme court of India [T.P (C) no. 1387 of 2011].
Today the abovementioned matter was listed before the Hon’ble Supreme court in the bench of Justice Deepak Verma and Justice K.S.Radhakrishnan in which the Hon’ble court had ordered :-
“As per the recent development, we defer to take this matter for two months.”
It may be noted that this PIL matter had been filled by Shri Anand lama in the larger interest of the Sikkimese people as the state of Sikkim has lost more than 10,000 crores (Ten thousand crores) rupees in the Hydro Power scam as per the Comptroller Auditor General of India [CAG] report which is similar to 2G spectrum in the national level. In a small state such as Sikkim this would be an extra ordinary amount actually earned from own soil of Sikkim state and this amount would have helped immensely in the development of all sectors especially in the upliftment of rural people of Sikkim. Sikkim with a population of around 6,00,000 lacs people which statistically would have around 85000 houses in the state of Sikkim and if 10 lacs rupees is given to each house in Sikkim then everyone would become a rich and Sikkim would still have enough money for development.
This is a very sad state of affairs of the state of Sikkim and each and every Sikkimese people has become a direct victim of this huge loss.

Meat processing &packing. & growth & development of Azolla (a quick growing aquatic fodder of nutritious value. In addition to this they were given chance to expose to VDO conferencing & documentary on Livestock development.the farms they visited were

2-Visit to West Bengal Co-operative Milk producer’s federation Ltd.
3-Visit to Kolkatta Mother Dairy Dankuni Hoogly.
4- Visit to west Bengal state poultry farm ,Tollygunje.
5-Visit to Harrringata Farm Mohan pur Noida

On the very outset B.B Chhetri Mangal Baria Rinchenpong expressed gratitude to the govt. for availing such expansive tour with all comfort & trip as per their need for livelihood system.As he is one of the selected farmer for poultry Estate at mangalbaria farm which is going to be started shortly.He highlighted that temperature maintainnence at brooder stage, grower stage are crucial at hilly region to poultry farmers & in absence of electricity heating sand in metal or earthen pot can sustain heat for 10-12 hours& it is helpful to them he added.After this Chintamani Sharma from Timburbung told that local feed preparation as theylearn by mixing all locally available ingredients like grind maize, rice husk, mustard cake etc is more economical & farmers are spending more money in purchasing feeds presently in Sikkim.afer this Sushma subba Sardong Dentam highlighted on Azolla culture for availing feed in lean period.She also expressed gratitude to Govt. by giving equal opportunity to female farmers.After this Sandeep subba from Gareythang Tashiding also highlighted on the need of rat & snake proof poutry farm with little effort during construction.After this Bhim Shankar Livestock assistant Dodak veterinary centre also highlighted on the need of such expouser tour for understanding new mechanism & technology in modern farming system.
