Darjeeling, April 19: The state government today forwarded a panel of four IAS officers’ names to the GTA Sabha chief executive to choose the next principal secretary of the hill body, minutes after Calcutta High Court had been told that although the list was ready, it was yet to be signed by the chief minister.
Of the four officers proposed by the government, three are in the rank of the secretary or the principal secretary, while the fourth one is an additional secretary.

80 को दशकमा देशभरिका गोर्खाहरूलाई जातित्वको भावना उत्पन्न गराउने प्रथम नेता सुवास घिसिङको निधनले अहिले घड़ी सम्पूर्ण दार्जीलिङ पहाड़ नै स्तब्ध बनेको छ। गोर्खाहरूका हित अनि अस्तित्वका निम्ति छुट्टै राज्यको बहस लिएर सुवास धिसिङले त्यसताक पहाड़का प्रत्येक गाँऊहरूको भ्रमण गरेका थिए। 22 जुन 1936 सालमा मिरिकको मञ्जु चियाबगानमा जन्म लिएरका सुवास घिसिङले आफ्नो तर्क राख्न एकलै जनसभा गर्थे। घिसिङले सम्पूर्ण गोर्खाहरूलाई एकै शुत्रमा बाँध्न "गोर्खाल्याण्ड" शब्दको जन्म गरेका थिए।

Darjeeling, April 18: Bimal Gurung today called Subash Ghisingh a “spent force” in the hills, hours after the ousted hill leader’s party GNLF said it would be revive its branch committees soon.
It is not known whether Gurung, who heads the autonomous GTA Sabha, had knowledge of the GNLF’s decision to revive its branch committees, which were once powerful bodies in the hills, but sources in the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha said the party was watching the GNLF keenly.

April 17: The Trinamul Congress’s sustained campaign in the Dooars and Terai has snared two John Barla loyalists who have added to the steady stream of leaders drifting to the ruling party from the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and the Left.

A team of the GTA, led by Bimal Gurung, met the President and submitted a three-point memorandum, which demanded the setting up of a central university, transfer of reserved forest areas to the GTA and a tripartite meeting with the Centre and state government.

Darjeeling, April 14: The management of Ging Tea Estate has decided to reopen the garden tomorrow after seven workers accused of assaulting the garden’s assistant manager surrendered in a Darjeeling court.
