शिक्षक प्रमुखको लापारवाहीको कारण बेहाल अवस्थामा चम्पामाया प्रथमिक पाठशाला

पहाड़को प्रथमिक पाठशालाहरु एका एक बन्द हुनुमा सरकार पक्ष दोषी छ कि शिक्षक-शिक्षिकाहरुको लापारवाही? किन दार्जीलिङ पहाड़को शैक्षिक स्तर दिनोदिन खस्किन्दै गइरहेको छ? प्रथमिक शिक्षा बाल-बालिकाहरुको निम्ति महत्तवपूर्ण हुँदा-हुँदै पनि किन आजसम्म पहाड़को शिक्षा व्यवस्थामा सुधार आउन सकिरहेको छैन?

राजनीति गर्दिनँ भन्नु पनि अर्को राजनीति होः हर्कबहादुर छेत्री

मेरो अधिकारक्षेत्रभित्र पाँच बर्षको लागि जनताको हितको काम गर् भनेर मलाई भोट हालेको हो नि। मलाई थाहा छ यसले जनताको धेरै हित हुन्छ। यसले जनताको हितसँगै पार्टीको पनि हित हुन्छ, आन्दोलनलाई पनि सहयोग पुर्‍याउँछ भनेपछि एकदम निसंकोच भनेर अघि बढ्न सक्छु म। म त्यही काम गर्दैछु।

बघिनी फेरि पुरानै खोरमा

‘समयले मानिसलाई कहाँ कहाँ पुर्‍याउँछ,,,,,,’ कुनै समय रेडियो नेपालबाट बजिरहने यो चर्चित गीतले मान्छेको जीवनमा प्रणयसम्बन्धको आरोह अवरोहले पार्ने प्रभावलाई सुन्दर ढंगले व्याख्या गरेको छ। यो लोकप्रिय गीतको यही एक हरफ कुनै राजनीतिकर्मीको जीवनसँग गाँसेर हेर्दा के उत्तर पाइएला?

साहित्य अनि सर्जकलाई माया गर्ने घिसिङ

80 को दशकमा देशभरिका गोर्खाहरूलाई जातित्वको भावना उत्पन्न गराउने प्रथम नेता सुवास घिसिङको निधनले अहिले घड़ी सम्पूर्ण दार्जीलिङ पहाड़ नै स्तब्ध बनेको छ। गोर्खाहरूका हित अनि अस्तित्वका निम्ति छुट्टै राज्यको बहस लिएर सुवास धिसिङले त्यसताक पहाड़का प्रत्येक गाँऊहरूको भ्रमण गरेका थिए। 22 जुन 1936 सालमा मिरिकको मञ्जु चियाबगानमा जन्म लिएरका सुवास घिसिङले आफ्नो तर्क राख्न एकलै जनसभा गर्थे। घिसिङले सम्पूर्ण गोर्खाहरूलाई एकै शुत्रमा बाँध्न "गोर्खाल्याण्ड" शब्दको जन्म गरेका थिए।

निराश छन् विधायक डा. छेत्री

“बजट सत्रमा के कुराहरू उठान गर्नु पर्ने भन्नेबारे हामीले जीटीएबाट कहिले फिडब्याक पाएका छैनौं” डा छेत्रीले भने। डा हर्कबहादुर छेत्री मोर्चाका प्रवक्ता हुन् अनि कालेबुङका जनप्रतिनिधि। दुइवटा महत्वपूर्ण पदमा बसेका डा छेत्रीलाई अहिलेसम्म जीटीएको बैठकमा निम्ताइएको छैन, पार्टीको राजनैतिक लाइनबारे उनीसँग चर्चा र छलफल नगरिएको त झन कति भयो, उनैलाई हेक्का छैन।

Namchi TT Association affiliated to STTA

The Namchi Table Tennis Association is now affiliated to its parent body, the Sikkim Table Tennis Association.
          The affiliation certificate was handed over to a NTTA team in  Gangtok today by STTA president CK Basnet, who is also the president of Sikkim Olympic Association. Speaking on the occasion, Basnet expressed his happiness over the formation of a new table tennis association at the south district of Namchi and applauded the aims and objectives of the NTTA. He also assured to provide all possible help to the association to produce skilled TT players.
Established in 2012, the NTTA aims to identify local rural talent and also to give more emphasis to table tennis as an important sport. The primary objective is to provide a platform for the youths of South and West Sikkim to showcase their talent on a larger field, to guide and nurture them players and to help create avenues to keep them away from the evils of society that afflict the youth of today.
The NTTA had conducted an Open TT Championship in August 2012. Although securing funds had been a major constraint, support from the power sector and likeminded people made the event a success. There were more than 300 participants from all over the state competing in various categories. The event also acted as a morale booster to youngsters of the district. Those who used to regard the sport with disdain began looking at it in new light.
Some students have started playing the game at the university level outside the state. This includes Dawa Namgyal Tamang, who is pursuing his Masters in Economics from Kumaun University, Uttarakhand. Tamang was adjudged runner-up in the Uttarakhand University State Level TT Championship last year.
The district administration this year, under the guidance of the District Collector (South), has come forward and provided with assistance. Power sector stakeholders and those from related industries have once again stepped forward in support. Similar support has also been solicited from various departments by placing advertisements. GJM legislators to call on Mamata during her Darjeeling visit

Stepping down from its earlier adamant stand, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leadership today extended an olive branch to the state government saying it is willing to meet chief minister Mamata Banerjee during her visit to the hills later this month.
Talking today to media persons in Darjeeling, GJM general secretary Roshan Giri said a courtesy call would be made to the CM during her visit on October 24. “Our three MLAs will go to meet the chief minister on a courtesy note when she is in Darjeeling. We know she is on a political visit, but we will definitely call on her,” the GJM leader said.
Both GJM leaders and the MLAs had refused to meet Banerjee when she was in the hills earlier this year.
Even so, the GJM general secretary clarified the people’s apprehension was the factor behind the party’s decision to meet its ‘nemesis’. “The people are apprehensive about the post October 23 scenario in the hills. And as our MLAs are part of the Assembly, it makes sense to meet the chief minister,’ said Giri.
The chief minister has refused to buckle down to the GJM’s pressure tactics of starting an agitation for statehood. Several senior GJM leaders and activists including Gorkhaland Territorial Administration elected members have been arrested. Banerjee also got Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to announce all decisions pertaining to the hills would be taken in consultation with the state government.
The GJM general secretary also did not make any attempt to veil the party’s reconciliatory attitude, saying the hills need to be peaceful and a dialogue process must start to resolve existing problems. “We want to solve the problems through dialogue and negotiations. Darjeeling is peaceful and we want to keep it that way. We also want to tell prospective tourists the hills are safe to visit. But the tripartite talk must take place soon,” said Giri.
During a function on October 7 in Kurseong to celebrate the party’s seventh foundation day, GJM president Bimal Gurung had echoed similar sentiments stating the dialogue process was the correct way forward in achieving a solution. He had also said the hills MLAs would meet the state government.
When asked about the official letter from the central government for the tripartite meeting, Giri said, “We have not received any letter yet, but we are sure the meeting will be held. It was the Union government that informed us verbally. But there is a possibility of the date being shifted.”
Commenting on the chief minister’s visit and the courtesy call, Kurseong MLA Rohit Sharma said it was standard protocol. “We will definitely meet Banerjee as she is the chief minister. Also, we are part of the assembly and protocol says we must call on her when she is in the hills,” he said, but refused to say why they failed to meet the CM during her visit earlier this year.

Hill TMC to expose GJM’s ‘politics of lies’ in public meeting

The Kalimpong unit of the Hill Trinamool Congress will organise a public meeting on Saturday to “expose the GJM’s politics of lies”. Talking to the media, Hill TMC leader Pravin Rahapal accused GJM chief Bimal Gurung of deceiving the people on the Gorkhaland issue since 2007.
He said, “We want to tell the people what the current political situation actually is in Darjeeling. The GJM kept the hills closed for over a month since July in the name of the statehood agitation, but what has the result been? We will tell the people how much they have been misled by Bimal Gurung since 2007.”
The TMC leader further said, “I have worked very close with Gurung. I know him much better than the GTA sabhashads do. We will expose the darkness in which he and his party have been keeping the general public.”
Rahapal said Saturday’s meeting will be held at Thanadara Trikon Park instead of Dambar Chowk where political meetings are generally held. He said the decision was made considering traffic issues that may arise. However, loud speakers will be placed at several vantage points of town to enable the townsfolk get to listen to the speeches.
Further, expressing concern for drivers, Rahapal said, “Holding a public meeting at Damabar Chowk on a ‘Haat’ day will create huge traffic troubles. Drivers get affected mostly. We won’t let such problems arise. Instead, we will place loudspeakers around town to ensure everybody can listen to us whereever they may be.”
The public meeting is expected to be addressed by hill TMC leaders Pravin Rahapal, Chewang Bhutia, Nanita Gautam, KN Subba and Tshering Sherpa, among others.

Sudden fire at night claims three of family in Ambiok

Ambiok Tea garden residents are in shock after three members of a family, including two children aged 5 and 3 and their father, died when their house suddenly caught fire in the dead of night on Thursday.
According to sources, Sharan Rai (34) and his two daughters Shraddha Rai (5) and Shristi Rai (3) died in the inferno that engulfed the entire wooden house. The intensity of the fire was so great that despite desperate attempts by neighbours to bring it under control, they failed. The family had just returned two days ago from Sikkim after celebrating Dasai while the mother had stayed back in Sikkim. The police have sent the bodies to the Noth Bengal Medical College and Hospital for postmortem.
