Golay to float party on Feb. 4
Gangtok, Jan. 30: The new party of P.S. Golay will be launched at Soreng in West Sikkim on Monday with a meeting that is expected to be attended by around 5,000 people.
The event will also witness the unveiling of the party’s flag and the announcement of names of central executive members.
“The preparations are almost over. The names of central executive members of the party will also be announced on February 4. We are expecting around 5,000 people to attend the launch of our party at Soreng Bazaar. The event will start at 9am,” said Bhoj Raj Rai, a former MLA of the SDF and a close aide to Golay.
Soreng is the native place of Golay, who was elected from Upper Burtuk in East Sikkim in 2009.
Asked in whose name the party had been registered, Rai said it would be disclosed on Monday. “The party hasn’t been registered in the name of Golay. Nor will he hold any post in the party. But he will be present at the launch.”
The SDF declined to comment when asked if the party would sack Golay. “In a democracy everyone has the right to form a party; no more comments,” SDF spokesperson P.D. Rai said over the phone from Delhi. (TT)
