कालेबुङ 24 जुन। कालेबुङ पुलिसले अवैद्य मदमदिराको ओसारपसारविरुद्ध अभियान चलाउँदै आज एउटा वाहनको तलाशी गरेर धेरै मात्रामा अवैद्य मदिरा उद्धार गरेको छ। गोप्य सूचनाको आधारमा पुलिस टोलीले अभियान चलाएर 33 कार्टून वियर अनि 6 कार्टून रम उद्धार गरेको छ। आज अपरान्ह यहाँको सातदोबाटो क्षेत्रमा डब्ल्युबी 74-एए-7941 नम्बर भएको रातो अल्टोबाट यी मदिराहरू उद्धार भएको थियो। पुलिसले ती मदिरासँगै वाहन चालक तारा परियारलाई पनि नियञ्त्रणमा लिएको छ। तिनी यहाँको तीनमाइल क्षेत्रका वासिन्दा हुन्। पुलिसले जफत गरेका मदिरा सिक्किमबाट ल्याइएको बताइएको छ। आरोपी चालकविरुद्ध बेङ्गल एक्सर्साइज एक्टको धारा 46अन्तर्गत मामिला दर्ता गरिएको छ।

Gurung on mouza report

Alipurduar, June 24: Bimal Gurung today said the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha had submitted a report on the population break-up of the 391 mouzas in the Dooars and Terai to the fact verification committee that would look into the recommendations of the Justice Shyamal Sen commission. The Morcha has been demanding that 396 mouzas in the plains be brought under the jurisdiction of the GTA Sabha. But the Shyamal Sen panel had recommended the inclusion of only five mouzas in the autonomous body. “We have submitted a report to the fact verification committee on the population of the 391 mouzas in the Dooars and Terai. We mentioned the percentage of the Gorkhas and the adivasis in the report. The committee will visit the Dooars and Terai to know the ground situation before submitting its report. Our main demand is the inclusion of 396 mouzas in the GTA and if it is not fulfilled, the Morcha will fight for it,” Morcha president Gurung told journalists after addressing a meeting at Gopi Mohon ground at Jaigaon, 64km from here. In his address to the meeting held as part of the panchayat election campaign, Gurung said: “Biki Lama and Akbar Lama have sacrificed their lives for Gorkhaland and I cannot forget their contribution. Now, we have adivasis and Rajbangshis with us. Maoists were born as they were deprived for long. Cast vote in favour of the JMM and the Morcha.” Around 3,000 people attended the meeting that began at 2pm. More than 60 minutes into the meeting, it started raining and still, the crowd didn’t disappear as Gurung was yet to deliver his speech. Kalimpong MLA Harka Bahadur Chettri and GTA Sabha members Pradeep Pradhan and P.T. Ola were on the stage. Gurung, who is also the GTA Sabha chief executive, today visited Tala Basti, Hat Khola, Pari Line, Chhetry Line and Bania Line under Dalshingpara gram panchayat of Kalchini block to canvass for the candidates of the Morcha and the JMM. He told the media that half of the 500 seats in the Dooars were left uncontested by the Morcha and the JMM. “We will declare a few days before the polls whom the Morcha and JMM supporters will support in these seats,” he added. Jalpaiguri district will go to the polls on July 9.

Parishad bandh fails on Bimal path

Jaigaon (Alipurduar), June 23: A 12-hour bandh that the Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad had called in the Dooars today to protest Bimal Gurung’s presence failed in the very block the hill leader was campaigning in. The strike’s failure in Kalchini — in other places in the Dooars the bandh held — kicked off a blame game between the Parishad’s Kalchini block committee president Rajesh Barla and Rajesh Lakra, the secretary of the north Bengal regional committee of the outfit. But observers in the Dooars said the Parishad had lost supporters in Kalchini to the JMM and the failure of the bandh could be a pointer to that. Rajesh Barla said: “Our leaders did not inform us about the strike yesterday and we couldn’t make announcements over loudhailers. The leadership had only told the media about the strike. So, our workers didn’t picket roads.” Rajesh Lakra said Rajesh Barla “is not telling the truth”. “We informed all block leaders in the Dooars about today’s strike. In Kalchini, few leaders might be supporting the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and that is why Wilson Chapramari won the Assembly election. I don’t know how the administration could grant permission to Gurung to hold meetings. If there is any law-and-order problem, the authorities will be held responsible,” he said. In a letter to the Jalpaiguri district magistrate last week, the Parishad had threatened to call the strike if Morcha leaders were allowed by the administration to campaign in the Dooars. The Parishad leaders said a campaign by Morcha president Gurung, who is in favour of including the Dooars and Terai in the GTA Sabha and the proposed Gorkhaland state, could lead to a breach of peace. Lakra had said yesterday that if Gurung was not sent back to the hills, the Parishad would observe an indefinite strike in the Dooars from Monday. But today, he said: “We will again sit tomorrow to discuss the issue and decide on our future strategy.” “A large number of supporters left the Parishad and joined the JMM recently. As the JMM has entered into an alliance with the Morcha for the rural polls, Gurung enjoys enough support in the block now,” said an observer. Gurung was not deterred by the Parishad's threat and has been campaigning for Morcha-JMM candidates in different areas of Jaigaon on the Indo-Bhutan border, 62km from Alipurduar, since Friday. All shops in Kalchini remained open today and several small vehicles were on the road in Kalchini and Hamiltangunj. The situation was not different elsewhere in Kalchini block. Life was normal at Hasimara, Jaigaon, Dalshingpara and Manglabari. This morning, when Gurung’s convoy of at least 25 vehicles reached Khokla Basti in Jaigaon, around 300 people were waiting for him. He spent half an hour there and went to Upper Khokla Basti. The Morcha leader addressed a small gathering in front of a church, from where one can see hills in Bhutan. “I am here not to canvass for our candidates. I feel very sad when you are in trouble. All the people in this region are like my family members. Whenever you will be in problem, I will be with you. The areas are still under-developed. Tomorrow, there will be a meeting at Gopi Mohon ground (Jaigaon) at 1pm and everybody should be there,” said Gurung. Talking to Metro, Gurung harped on the under-development of the Dooars. “You see, on the other side is Bhutan and how much development is there. But in this area, roads are in bad condition and there is no proper health service either. The main plank of politics in the Dooars should be under-development. If our candidates win the election from the region, we will gain strength to ask the government to carry out development works.” When asked about the strike, the Morcha chief said: “They called a strike to stop me but I am carrying on with the campaign. Stopping a couple of vehicles on the road does not mean strike. I will declare the election issues at tomorrow’s meeting.” P.T. Ola, the organising secretary of the Morcha and a member of GTA Sabha, said: “We are waiting for the report of the Fact Verification Committee (that is looking into the Shyamal Sen panel’s recommendation that only five mouzas in the plains be brought under the GTA Sabha). “If we have a good number of elected representatives from the Dooars, it will be a message for the central and state governments. People need instant relief and without an administrative set-up, how can development take place?”

बाइक चोरी गरेको आरोपमा दुइ विध्यार्थी पक्राउ

कालेबुङ, 24 जून। बाइक चोरी गरेको आरोपमा कालेबुङ पुलिसले यहॉंको एक प्रतिष्ठित स्कूलमा पढ्‌दैगरेका दुइजना विद्यार्थीलाई रङ्गे हात पक्राउ गरेको छ। घटनाक्रमअनुसार, यहॉंको एक नीजि नर्सिङ होमको नजिक 10 माइल परिसरमा 79-1999 नम्बर भएको सीबीजेड बाइक पार्क गरेर राखिएको थियो। मध्यराती करीब 12 बजी दुइ विद्यार्थी मिलेर न्यूट्रलमा नै बाइक कुदाएर 16 किलोमिटेर टाटा राष्ट्रिय राजमार्ग स्थित टिस्टा पुलसम्म्‌ पुर्‍याइसकेका थिए। तर यसैबीच बाइकको मालिक अरुण प्रधानले चोरीको खबर कालेबुङ थानामा सूचित गरेको थियो। फलस्वरुप, कालेबुङ थानाबाट टिस्टा पुसिल पोष्टमा सूचित गरेलगत्तै पुलिसले राजमार्ग क्षेत्रमा चेकिङ गर्न शुरु गर्दा दुवै आरोपी पुसिलको पञ्जामा परेका हुन्‌। पुलिस सूत्रअनुसार, दुइ विद्यार्थीले टिस्टा छेउछाउकै बाइक गिरोहलाई चोरीको बाइक सुम्पेर पैसा लिने कोशिशमा थिए। तर समयमा नै पुलिसले सतर्कता अप्नाएको कारण उनीहरूको कोशिश सफल हुन सकेन। सानै उमेर मा नै धेर पैसा कमाउने सोँचाइले नै आज उनीहरूलाई डुबाएको छ। पक्रा परेका आरोपी विद्यार्थीहरूमा आसिफ गुरुङ (18) अनि इसमाइल राई(18) रहेको बताइएको छ। पक्रा परेका दुइ विद्यार्थी आरोपीलाई आज न्यायलयमा पेश गरिएको थियो जहॉंबाट उनीहरूलाई दुइदिनको पुलिस रिमाण्डमा पठाइएको छ।
