शिक्षक प्रमुखको लापारवाहीको कारण बेहाल अवस्थामा चम्पामाया प्रथमिक पाठशाला

पहाड़को प्रथमिक पाठशालाहरु एका एक बन्द हुनुमा सरकार पक्ष दोषी छ कि शिक्षक-शिक्षिकाहरुको लापारवाही? किन दार्जीलिङ पहाड़को शैक्षिक स्तर दिनोदिन खस्किन्दै गइरहेको छ? प्रथमिक शिक्षा बाल-बालिकाहरुको निम्ति महत्तवपूर्ण हुँदा-हुँदै पनि किन आजसम्म पहाड़को शिक्षा व्यवस्थामा सुधार आउन सकिरहेको छैन?

राजनीति गर्दिनँ भन्नु पनि अर्को राजनीति होः हर्कबहादुर छेत्री

मेरो अधिकारक्षेत्रभित्र पाँच बर्षको लागि जनताको हितको काम गर् भनेर मलाई भोट हालेको हो नि। मलाई थाहा छ यसले जनताको धेरै हित हुन्छ। यसले जनताको हितसँगै पार्टीको पनि हित हुन्छ, आन्दोलनलाई पनि सहयोग पुर्‍याउँछ भनेपछि एकदम निसंकोच भनेर अघि बढ्न सक्छु म। म त्यही काम गर्दैछु।

बघिनी फेरि पुरानै खोरमा

‘समयले मानिसलाई कहाँ कहाँ पुर्‍याउँछ,,,,,,’ कुनै समय रेडियो नेपालबाट बजिरहने यो चर्चित गीतले मान्छेको जीवनमा प्रणयसम्बन्धको आरोह अवरोहले पार्ने प्रभावलाई सुन्दर ढंगले व्याख्या गरेको छ। यो लोकप्रिय गीतको यही एक हरफ कुनै राजनीतिकर्मीको जीवनसँग गाँसेर हेर्दा के उत्तर पाइएला?

साहित्य अनि सर्जकलाई माया गर्ने घिसिङ

80 को दशकमा देशभरिका गोर्खाहरूलाई जातित्वको भावना उत्पन्न गराउने प्रथम नेता सुवास घिसिङको निधनले अहिले घड़ी सम्पूर्ण दार्जीलिङ पहाड़ नै स्तब्ध बनेको छ। गोर्खाहरूका हित अनि अस्तित्वका निम्ति छुट्टै राज्यको बहस लिएर सुवास धिसिङले त्यसताक पहाड़का प्रत्येक गाँऊहरूको भ्रमण गरेका थिए। 22 जुन 1936 सालमा मिरिकको मञ्जु चियाबगानमा जन्म लिएरका सुवास घिसिङले आफ्नो तर्क राख्न एकलै जनसभा गर्थे। घिसिङले सम्पूर्ण गोर्खाहरूलाई एकै शुत्रमा बाँध्न "गोर्खाल्याण्ड" शब्दको जन्म गरेका थिए।

निराश छन् विधायक डा. छेत्री

“बजट सत्रमा के कुराहरू उठान गर्नु पर्ने भन्नेबारे हामीले जीटीएबाट कहिले फिडब्याक पाएका छैनौं” डा छेत्रीले भने। डा हर्कबहादुर छेत्री मोर्चाका प्रवक्ता हुन् अनि कालेबुङका जनप्रतिनिधि। दुइवटा महत्वपूर्ण पदमा बसेका डा छेत्रीलाई अहिलेसम्म जीटीएको बैठकमा निम्ताइएको छैन, पार्टीको राजनैतिक लाइनबारे उनीसँग चर्चा र छलफल नगरिएको त झन कति भयो, उनैलाई हेक्का छैन।

State govt not pursuing ‘divide and rule’ policy, insists Lepcha body

The Kalimpong unit president of the Indigenous Lepcha Tribal Association, LS Tamsang, today denied allegations about the state government trying to pursue a ‘divide and rule’ policy in the hills with the formation of the Lepcha Development Council. He said the formation of the LDC has nothing to do with politics and the step was taken for the development of the community. Tamsang appealed to the leadership of the ongoing statehood agitation to refrain from associating the LDC’s formation with politics.
“I personally believe the state government has no wicked intentions behind this. The LDC has been formed for the sole purpose of uplifting the community,” said Tamsang.
Addressing the press in the ILTA party office, he said the Lepchas have been able to convince the state government to form the council and the fruits would be available to all. “We have to nothing against the GJM. The Lepchas are not politically strong. If we were we, would not have been left behind in the race. The condition of Lepchas in the Sunderwarti area is still miserable. The board has been formed simply to develop the community and not to create division among communities,” said Tamsang.
The ILTA president also said the community is not against the formation of a separate state. Even as he said every community has the right to fight for rights, he refrained from commenting on the support of the Lepchas to the statehood movement.
“We never said we will not support the cause of Gorkhaland. We are not saying we are coming now. When the time is ripe to come we will announce our decision,” said Tamsang.
He said the ILTA has made arrangements to felicitate chief minister Mamta Banerjee on September 3 at Mela Ground. The decision to honour her was decided in June and an invitation also forwarded then. In such circumstances, cancelling the event would be a disgrace to the invitee, maintained Tamsang.
The community will felicitate the CM with the ‘Kingstoom Darmit’ (bestower of fortune) title in the presence of around 25,000 Lepchas.

Cultural rally in Kalimpong, Lepchas urged to support statehood agitation

The final day of the Vidhyarthi Morcha’s five-day leadership to the Gokhaland agitation ended here with a cultural rally with thousands in participation. Dressed in traditional attires, students marched through town shouting slogans while student leaders Bhushan Tamang, Manohar Bhujel and GTA sabhashad Dawa Lepcha delivered speeches after the rally.
Addressing the gathering, Bhujel, a student of Kamal Jyoti School, accused the state government of indulging in the politics of ‘divide and rule’ indicating at the Lepcha Development Council. He appealed to the Lepcha community to come forward and support the Gorkhaland agitation saying the Gorkhas and Lepchas are blood brothers.
“Our Lepcha brethren must observe a ‘janata curfew’ when the chief minister visits Kalimpong to show support to the movement,” appealed Bhujel.
He said no other administrative set-up will be accepted by the students except for a separate state of Gorkhaland. While condemning the police administration for rampantly arresting GJM activists, he challenged them to arrest students.
Vidhyarthi Morcha leader Bhusan Tamang accused Sikkim’s Lepcha community of politicising the LDC. He said, “The Sikkim and Bengal governments will be responsible if communal clashes take place here. Sikkimese Lepchas should not interfere with the demand for Gorkhaland.”
On the other hand, GTA sabhashad Lepcha termed the current activities of the Lepcha community as being politically motivated.

GNLF hoists party flags in Mirik

While Mirik residents were seen busy shopping today during the 24-hour relaxation given to the shutdown, some GNLF supporters were seen busy hoisting their party flags at several vantage points. The GNLF’s Village Protection Cell members were entrusted with the task of hoisting the party flags.
Mirik-Soureni VPC commander Santamani Rai said as party flags were destroyed by antisocial elements, new flags are being put up in support of Gorkhaland. Claiming Gorkhaland is possible only through the Sixth Schedule, Rai said, “The current movement in the hills is only a drama to fool the public and the people will gain nothing from it.”
According to Rai, the Sixth Schedule is an easier way to achieve a separate state stressing the GNLF is not against Gorkhaland. “If a movement is spearheaded sincerely, the question of not supporting the leadership will not arise at all,” remarked the GNLF leader.

Shutdown brewing frustration among hill residents?

As the indefinite bandh in the hills continues under the leadership of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, Kurseong residents have started wondering whether the strike will be called off anytime soon.
The GJM renewed its demand for a separate state of Gorkhaland after the announcement on Telangana and has been observing an indefinite bandh since July 29 with some brief relaxation periods in between. Almost all residents here have participated in rallies and demonstrations in support of Gorkhaland.
 A Kurseong resident said he supports the cause of Gorkhaland and has been participating in the rallies, but is quite curious to know as to when the indefinite bandh would end. He said the GJM leadership should instead chalk out new strategies to pressurise the government instead of calling bandhs.
The person’s observations indicate there is frustration brewing among people with the ‘bandh culture’ the GJM has adopted. (EOIC)
