» Shutdown brewing frustration among hill residents?
As
the indefinite bandh in the hills continues under the leadership of the
Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, Kurseong residents have started wondering
whether the strike will be called off anytime soon.
The GJM renewed its demand for a
separate state of Gorkhaland after the announcement on Telangana and has
been observing an indefinite bandh since July 29 with some brief
relaxation periods in between. Almost all residents here have
participated in rallies and demonstrations in support of Gorkhaland.
A Kurseong resident said he supports
the cause of Gorkhaland and has been participating in the rallies, but
is quite curious to know as to when the indefinite bandh would end. He
said the GJM leadership should instead chalk out new strategies to
pressurise the government instead of calling bandhs.
The person’s observations indicate there
is frustration brewing among people with the ‘bandh culture’ the GJM
has adopted. (EOIC)
