The
agitation in demand of statehood by way of showcasing cultural
uniqueness of the residents of the hills that was launched by the GJAC
on September 13 completed its ninth day today. As part of the month-long
strategy, demonstrators dressed in traditional attire gathered outside
the municipality office and submitted deputations demanding the release
of the arrested GJM cadres and a political solution to the Gorkhaland
demand.
The day’s programmes were initiated by
Ward No. 40 with GTA sabhashad Dawa Lepcha, including leaders such as
Palden Bhutia, Tikaram Sharma and Kalawati Acharya, leading the rally
and demonstration.
GTA sabhashad Dawa Lepcha and others
addressed the gathering at the Ramakrishna Rangamancha demanding the
unconditional release of the arrested people and condemning the
repressive measures of the state government to crush the statehood
movement.
