Under the theme ‘Getting Zero’ to make
society free of AIDS, Mirik’s National AIDS Control Society today
organised various programmes across several places in Mirik and the
Terai region to observe World AIDS Day. Society members distributed
leaflets and made public announcements to spread awareness on the
disease among locals of the region.
Members of health organisations in Mirik
along with ICRC councillor Sanjay Thapa were present at a function
organised at the district health centre to observe World AIDS Day.
In Naxalbari also, an awareness rally
was organised by Gan Ananya Parishad from the Adivasi sports ground to
Rathkhola and again up to the Central Bank in Naxalbari Market. The
rally was organised by Parishad chief Tarun Kumar Biswas and members
including Sheela Rai, Mausami Das and Farid Ali.
The organisers distributed leaflets and informed about various preventive measures and information on AIDS.
