AIGL leadership critical of agitation leadership

All India Gorkha League general secretary Pratap Khati today told the media the Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee leadership lacks capability, discipline and honesty.
He said even the people are enthusiastically supporting the demand for statehood, but the lack of directional leadership is leading them nowhere.
“The leaders can do nothing by just showing masses of people. We have seen a lack of able leadership to channel the enthusiasm of the people. It is because of the lack of leadership the dream of Gorkhaland has not come true,” claimed Khati.
Commenting on the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, he said, “The absence of able leadership has led to stereotyped programmes being staged at such a crucial moment. There are several incidents where the actions of the leaders have aroused deep doubts. The month-long bandh was out of bounds for the NHPC and the cinchona and tea industries to ensure funds kept rolling in. They (GJM) kept those areas closed that were causing trouble to the common man. I believe they are trying to exhaust the people’s energy so as to relinquish the statehood demand eventually.”
According to Khati, the outright rejection of the GTA will instead strengthen the demand for Gorkhaland. He said, “We have been continuously appealing to the GJM to abrogate the GTA. They can give up the GTA and show it did not work out for the people of the hills. But I cannot understand why they are trying to beat around the bush.”
He added there is no question of statehood unless the GTA is rejected.
The ABGL general secretary further said if the GJM had not accepted the GTA, there might have been greater chances for the approval of Gorkhaland along with Telangana.
“We should resign from the GTA to make the government announce fresh elections. We should then resign en masse after the elections to frustrate the government,” opined Khati.
