NBU deans
Siliguri, May 12: North Bengal University has filled up two vacancies that have been lying vacant for more than a year with the appointment of professors to the posts of dean of arts, commerce and law and dean of science.
Palash Ranjan Sengupta, the head of the commerce department, is the new dean of faculty of arts, commerce and law, while Amitabha Mukhopadhyay, the head of the physics department, will be the dean of the faculty of science.
“The appointments were made by vice-chancellor Samir Kumar Das on Friday and the duo will take charge tomorrow. The names of Sengupta and Mukhopadhyay were recommended by two dean search committees set up for the NBU,” said a varsity official.
The two posts had been lying vacant after the terms of the two previous deans had expired in February last year. The deans play a role in deciding on new subjects that have to be introduced at post-graduate levels.
