CALL FOR DEMOCRACY

• Dear Sir/Madam, 

         The intellectuals, writers, social activists of Siliguri are continuously and sharply observing the developments of Darjeeling hills political scenario. This democratic section holds the stand that the Government of West Bengal should move ahead politically to solve the old issue of identity issue rather than applying stern administrative models and acting in stubborn aggressive mood. The arrest of political workers as well as common people has crossed 650 till date. The peaceful scenario of the hills has been sabotaged by the unnecessary deployment of additional police force, SSB and CRPF in nooks and corners of the hills. A fear psychosis has swept away the normalcy of the hill’s public life. The democratic values seem to be facing dire results of state atrocities of arrests of people, baseless transfer of officials. In order to address this crisis, to condemn the atrocities and to demand for the restoration of democratic environment, a joint press release is being issued on 27th Aug 2013 (Tuesday) with the names of the individuals/organisations who are in favour of peoples’ right to democratic life. We request you to go through the draft of the release attached herewith and to give your consent of inclusion of your name, if you agree to be named, by 26ht August 2013 (Monday). WE would even request you to forward this letter to as many democratic people as possible so that they may also come forward for this mass appeal.
