United
Gorkha Revolutionary Front president Ajay Dahal, who once led an
unsuccessful armed statehood movement, has suggested the leadership of
the current Gorkhaland movement adopt a peaceful and democratic
strategy. UGRF cadres distributed leaflets containing these suggestions
in Kalimpong today. The leaflet containing 27 points advising how the
leadership and public should move forward in order to achieve statehood.
The UGRF leader has also shared his
experiences and the precautions needed to be taken when faced with
adverse political situations. Dahal says instead of wasting energy on
insignificant adversaries, the movement should be taken to a higher
level. Without mentioning the name of any political party, the UGRF
chief has urged all parties to come together and take the onus of
leading the century-old statehood demand.
Talking to journalists today, Dahal
criticised the GJM for kicking off the agitation at a wrong timing. “A
proper analysis of the political situation of the country was not made
before starting the movement,” he claimed.
He added thorough groundwork is very
essential when launching a movement and since the GJM has already
launched its offensive, the UGRF is only trying to suggest the
directions the movement should be given.
“These (suggestions) are what we feel are the need of the moment,” concluded Dahal.
