Brake failure causes accident in Peshok, passengers injured

A Mahindra Bolero with registration number WB 76 4696 yesterday met with an accident near Peshok Tea Garden View Point after its brakes failed. The vehicle was ferrying passengers from Darjeeling to Kalimpong.
Five passengers have been severely injured while the remaining people have received minor injuries. Saran Tamang (47), a resident of Dhotre Tea Garden, is in serious condition. Those severely injured include driver Karmat Ghimiray, Algarah resident Tenzing Bhutia, Saruna Tamang of Bong Busty and Sharmila Chettri of Chotamangwa.
The injured are being treated at the Kalimpong sub-divisional hospital. Hospital sources said Subham Rai of Bijanbari, Tshering Thendup of Pedong, Nisha Subba of Rinkingpong Road, Gita Tamang of Dhotre Tea Garden, Uday Tamang of Bong Busty and Priyanka Bhutia of Algarah received minor injuries.
According to Uday Tamang, the brake failure occurred around 2:30pm following which the driver rammed the Bolero into the wall to avert a major tragedy.
