KALIMPONG

The
Kalimpong unit of the Gorkha National Liberation Front today condemned
the arrest of convener Maurice Kalikotey, terming it illegal and
undemocratic. Party cadres in a memorandum submitted to SDO Rahika Aiyer
alleged the arrest to be a violation of human rights and appealed for
the immediate release of Kalikotey.
“The administration has given freedom to
the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha and Trinamool Congress to install party
flags in town. But why is it stopping us from doing so?” questioned GNLF
leaders.
Kalikotey was presented before the
Kalimpong ACJM court today but denied bail due to the nature of charges
against him. The court sent him to 14 days judicial custody. The
Kalimpong police have booked him under Section 384 of the IPC.
