Around 40 members of the Evangelical
Presbyterian Church of Sikkim from all the four districts of the state
led by MLA Menlom Lepcha, Rev PS Timgmo and mediator Remon Molommu today
called on chief minister Pawan Chamling at his official residence
Mintokgang.
Lepcha expressed his heartfelt gratitude
to the chief minister for his support to the EPCS as also for the
assistance he has extended to the entire Christian community of the
state.
The delegates also submitted some of
their pending demands and the chief minister assured full cooperation
and support from him and his government. He informed them the government
has already sanctioned Rs1 crore and other grants for an EPCS church
being constructed in PNG School here in the capital.
Chamling noted that Sikkim is not only
the most peaceful state in India, but also a model of a real secular
state, adding his government has worked tirelessly towards making the
state an example in more than one ways.
“We've always kept and secured the
interests of all people and associations practicing different faiths in
the state and will continue to do,” he reiterated.
The chief minister appealed to the
delegates to participate actively and contribute in maintaining the
goodwill of the state that his government has created and urged them to
spread the message that the government has not left any stone upturned
to uplift the weaker sections of society, especially by stressing on
education.
