SDF dissident MLA PS Golay, who recently
resigned from the party to reportedly join the opposition Sikkim
Krantikari Morcha, has so far refrained from making any public
appearances. But SKM sources have claimed the legislator from Upper
Burtuk Constituency will come out in public within this month itself.
They said the party is making
arrangements to accord Golay a grand welcome. Party workers from the
South and West Districts will welcome him in Melli, while those from the
North and East Districts will receive him in Rangpo and escort the MLA
to the SKM head office in Tadong. The sources further said Golay is
presently in New Delhi “wrapping up party works”.
Golay is reported to have submitted a
14-page resignation letter via email and post on September 4 from Delhi
to the SDF head office even though the ruling front has denied receiving
such a letter. SDF president and chief minister, Pawan Chamling, has
also tried to avoid commenting on Golay’s supposed resignation.
Further, the SKM sources said the MLA
will take formal charge of the party on September 22 following which a
welcome programme will be organised.
Interestingly, Pawan Chamling came to
power in Sikkim on September 22, 1993 by routing his predecessor and
one-time mentor Nar Bahadur Bhandari. The SDF-led state government also
observes September 22 as Poverty Eradication Day.
