The State BJP has extended its heartiest
congratulations to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on being
anointed the party’s prime ministerial candidate for the general
election next year.
“We hope and aspire to make a difference
in our state too under his guidance and direction as he is the chief of
the National Election Campaign Committee,” stated a press release from
the state BJP.
It added, “Although the BJP has not been
able to enter the Assembly so far in Sikkim, but now with educated
youth playing an active role in the political scenario of Sikkim, we are
all set to make some difference in the upcoming election.”
The BJP also said the notion people
often have about national level parties and their unpopularity in the
regions is a matter of the past. Every educated individual today knows
Sikkim cannot sustain or run in an isolated manner. Every policy, scheme
and even compensation during times of natural calamity is decided by
the Centre. Hence, the people of Sikkim cannot afford to keep themselves
away from the BJP, the biggest opposition party at the Centre.
Further, the state BJP feels if
Sikkim-based MPs of the party are sent to Parliament, local demands and
grant appeals would be quickly considered by the national leadership. In
order to bring development into Sikkim at par with other states, there
is need to have some presence of national level parties in the state
assembly for acting as a pressure group and to work in a constructive
manner for the development of the Sikkimese people, states the press
release.
